Remember, in reference to your instructions, you are to write a journal entry or design a presentation in which you describe a carbon’s atom journey through photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Note: You are to start with carbon as being part of a carbon dioxide molecule and end with carbon being a part of a carbon dioxide module. After you fill in your pre-writing activity, it is time to begin your final product! How will you get started? Here is an example: Hi! My name is CJ and I am a carbon atom. What do you think I do all day? Well lets talk about a couple of things like photosynthesis and cellular respiration. In photosynthesis I travel through the ______________________ and ________________________ reactions. While I was in the ____________________________, I saw the following________________________________________ (This is when you will then go into the details of the assignment and what is happening to your carbon atom.) (Be sure to address the light-dependent reactions and light-independent reactions of photosynthesis. Then for cellular respiration, you are discussing glycolysis, Kreb’s cycle, and the electron transport chain.)

When going through photosynthesis…. 1. What is happening in the light dependent reactions? a. Where does this reaction occur? b. Is anything happening to your carbon atom? If so, what? c. What is happening to the electrons, oxygen, and ATP? 2. What is happen in the light independent reactions? d. Where does this reaction occur? e. Is anything happening to your carbon atom? If so what? f. How does your carbon atom keep changing? Why? g. What is formed at the end of the light independent reactions? Where is your carbon atom now?

Now, explain how your carbon atom goes through cellular respiration… 1. Where does cellular respiration occur? 2. How did your carbon atom get into cellular respiration….part of what molecule? 3.     The process of photosynthesis occurs when six carbon dioxide molecules (CO2), six water molecules (H2O), and light energy are added together and result in glucose (C6H12O6) and six oxygen (O2) molecules.
