The culture of Hong Kong is heavily influenced by the personal interaction that is also regarded as the Guanxi. In the year 1997, Hong Kong became part of China after the British rule that continued and remained for almost 150 years or so. This fact must be taken into consideration that mostly population of Hong Kong is consisted upon the Chinese people and the official language of Hong Kong is English because of the British influence (Warner, 2014). There is need to understand the fact that there are many kinds of business practices and customs that typically show combination of British and Chinese cultural values and norms. The application and utilization of Guanxi has been so much effective and result oriented in a sense that it has brought resounding and long-term effects on the business relationship as well. This aspect can be proficiently explained through the help of different business functions that can be related to all culture, at the same time reflects, and suggest the overall business behaviours (Barnes, 2015). There is one thing to focus on, the Guanxi talk that shows the indication of care and interest a great deal. This is strictly followed with respect for age first in any of these relationships. One must never lose face with any of these ties for to lose face is to lose honor. The concept of face translates as honor, good reputation, and respect. There are four types of face. Face behavior is power-oriented behavior with the purpose of maintaining stability or control of one’s self. Diumianzi originates from the word mian and directly relates to one’s reputation or place in society. It is actions or deeds, which others have observed, and it is earned. Geimianzi is response to or giving of face to another through showing respect to the other person. Liumianzi is developed by avoiding mistakes and showing wisdom in making decisions.
