In his book, A Grief Observed, C.S. Lewis addresses many physical, psychological, and behavioral dimensions of grief. He describes grief as a sort of fear sensation, with the same breathless unease and unrest in the stomach. It can be easy to see why grief would feel like fear. Both are strong physical as well as psychological emotions that cause great anxiety and tension in the body and mind. C.S. Lewis describes the tearfulness –the un-masculine and often revealing side, one that he says doesn’t always do the memory of a person justice, as well as the tearless side –the one where everyone questions why you aren’t engrossed in sadness. He implies a lack of behavior; a great change in what one wants to do. Simple tasks become very difficult to complete. Grief is a strong, sometimes overwhelming emotion felt by an individual when faced with a loss of a loved one or a personal loss, such as their health, job, or a relationship. Grief is the nature reaction to loss. Both a universal and personal experience (Mayo Clinic, 2014). Ever individual will have a different experience with grief influenced by the nature of their loss. At some point in life everyone will have a time of grieving. How the individual copes with their grief can vary, as no two people grieve in the same manner. This paper will discuss the comparisons and contrasting views as defined in the Kubler-Ross model, the five stages of grief, the story of Job in the Bible, and Buddhism regarding grief, as well as the writers preferred method of dealing with grief.…

Grief is shown differently depending on the person. Some are verbal with their grief; others may show it through actions, and some may show it through emotions. People grieve in their own way and when they are ready: it is an very personal process. Grief is a natural process of living, and mourning that is an important part of the healing process. Grief cannot be rushed because it takes time and everyone experiences it differently. Not everyone will go through the stages in the same order (Axelrod, 2006). Society makes a difference by their reaction to grief. “We are a grief and death denying society” (Athan, 2011). Unresolved grief can be damaging, as well as it can lead to multiple problems like addiction, anxiety, depression, or even…

Loss and grief can mean a variety of different things. It can be the physical loss of a person (death), a thing, a limb. It could be the loss of something social –relationships, divorce, friendships, or it could be the loss of a job, a loss of expectations. Grief has many different stages and every individual grieves in their own way, no two people are the same when it comes to grieving, though there are particular stages most people go through, but not in any certain order. These include: shock, denial, emotional, psychological and physical symptoms, depression, blame, guilt, anger, idealisation, realism, acceptance, readjustment, personal growth.…
Relational cultural theory refers to a branch of psychology that deals with human relations. The theory states that it is important for society to sustain relationships that promote growth (Walker, 2004). According to the theory, growth applies if people create inclusive relationships that support joint success rather than individual autonomy and disconnection from society. In addition, relational cultural theory singles out individual isolation as the origin of human anguish. It is important to have genuine and reciprocated relationships, because they outline how someone feels about themselves and others (Walker, 2004). The theory also identifies consequences of relationships that promote growth.…

As this paper progresses I will introduce you to a Bible story of a man who was made to suffer incredible losses in his life and how he progressed through what we know today as The 5 Stages of Grief.…

The video series on Shame were very enlightening and provide information critical for a teacher to know when dealing with readers of varying skill levels. The videos highlight how lack of ability or poor skills in reading can create intense feelings of shame due to a perception of lack of intellect or stupidity in both the student’s self-view and by others. This shame can be an internally created feeling or be external in the form of public shame which can be debilitating and long lasting. Some individuals are never able to move beyond or overcome these feelings. Therefore, teachers need to be aware of the impact or result of requiring students to read out loud and subjecting them to the ridicule of others. Teachers also need to be more…
