Lamb offers descriptions of the various ways AI is integrated into our society, such as Siri and smart homes, and also projections of the near future, like the development of self-driving cars in 2019, with all the accompanying benefits. Lamb targets the average consumer of technological products, and those skeptical of AI, and hopes to make them realize how AI is already a part of their lives, as a personal assistant, and not as a threat. Gregory M. Lamb is senior editor at The Christian Science Monitor. He has written on topics such as books and television, but more importantly, about the ethics of human enhancement and the effects of internet connected devices on the human mind. He has also been employed in various other positions within The Christian Science Monitor, such as Special Projects editor, Features editor, Assistant International News editor, and as an editorial writer. His articles cover a variety of topics, and are always well researched, and full of facts instead of opinions. This makes him qualified to write about pretty much any topic, as he gets his information from reputable sources. He describes the benefits of current AI, as well as the AI’s role as a personal assistant rather than a malevolent overlord. I agree more with this view than with the doomsday prediction provided by James Barrat. While I understand the dangers of AI, he is combining the dangers of AI (A clearly developing technology) with the dangers of nanotechnology (A still very far off technology) into one issue. I do not believe this approach is realistic. Artificial intelligence is already all around us, but it is so integrated into our society we do not recognize it anymore. It is already becoming our personal assistants. I recognize that I am biased towards the benefits of technology, as I love seeing new types of machines being developed, and I believe it will only help us. This source would help my support my opinion, as I agree with the author, and can use some of the highly regarded individuals’ comments to back up my claim.
