Greek Mythology: Disney's Hercules
When asked about Greek mythology, most adults talk about the almighty Zeus. Although Zeus is popular amongst adults, most children think of Disney’s Hercules, which is based on the Greek myth “Heraclês.” Since Disney has shaped the story to be fit for children, the values represented are much different than that of Greek mythology.
First of all, in the Disney movie Hercules, the movie focuses mainly on heroism while the myth focuses on working towards forgiveness. In the movie, Hercules is supposed to prove that he is a true hero. To try to prove himself, Hercules saved Megara from Nessus, he saved the town from the Hydra, and ultimately saved the heavens from Hades and the titans. These events introduced a very common Disney movie characteristic:
