If you were asked what the greatest invention to help or impact mankind, what would you say? Most people would begin to talk about automobile, engines, and other machinery. Weapons are also a major reason we are what we are today. A special weapon stands out as the big advantage of why we won the battles in World War II, It’s called the Atomic Bomb. It is a great invention because of the power it has stored inside it. This weapon is very high classified weapon. It is very powerful and also very lethal to what ever it has been targeted towards. Created in the Manhattan Project and costing approximately 20 billion dollars the Atomic Bomb’s reaction is either cause by fission or both fission and fusion. In fission weapons a mass of fissile material, a material capable of sustaining a chain reaction of nuclear fission, is assembled into a supercritical mass which is the amount needed to start a chemical reaction. However, fusion weapons have to rely on fusion reactions between isotopes of hydrogen. Both of these reactions release enormous quantities of energy from relatively small amounts of matter. This amount of energy released is equivalent to the amount of about 20,000 tons of TNT. However, the thermonuclear bomb, a nuclear weapon design that uses the heat generated by a fission bomb to compress and ignite a nuclear fission stage, released about 10,000,000 tons of …show more content…

This had already caused massive destruction to towns and cities. It was a race towards who could have the first atomic bomb. When The United States Successfully accomplished the bomb it was at first a way to initiate Japan into Surrendering but the second bomb was a way to show superiority towards the rest of the world that America is very powerful. The alternative is what could have happened if the bomb was not used? Japan was already getting dominated by sea and by air they were being isolated and not allowed resources it was only a matter of time till Japan could have surrendered. If the bombs were not used there would not be near as many deaths and utter destruction. But we cannot no for sure if Japan could have surrendered or not, and if they did not surrender what could have been lost? Many American troops would have lost their lives.
