If you were asked what the greatest invention to help or impact mankind, what would you say? Most people would begin to talk about automobile, engines, and other machinery. Weapons are also a major reason we are what we are today. A special weapon stands out as the big advantage of why we won the battles in World War II, It’s called the Atomic Bomb. It is a great invention because of the power it has stored inside it. This weapon is very high classified weapon. It is very powerful and also very lethal to what ever it has been targeted towards. This weapon was starting to be invented in 1939 and had more than 130

Created in the Manhattan Project and costing approximately 20 billion dollars the Atomic Bomb’s reaction is either cause by fission or both fission and fusion. In fission weapons a mass of fissile material, a material capable of sustaining a chain reaction of nuclear fission, is assembled into a supercritical mass which is the amount needed to start a chemical reaction. However, fusion weapons have to rely on fusion reactions between isotopes of hydrogen. Both of these reactions release enormous quantities of energy from relatively small amounts of matter. This amount of energy released is equivalent to the amount of about 20,000 tons of TNT. However, the thermonuclear bomb, a nuclear weapon design that uses the heat generated by a fission bomb to compress and ignite a nuclear fission stage, released about 10,000,000 tons of …show more content…
These nations consist of: The United States, Soviet Union (Russia), United Kingdom, France, The Peoples Republic of China, India, Pakistan, and North Korea. According to Richard G. Hewlett and Oscar E. Anderson, Jr. the total amount of nuclear missiles built from 1951 to present day, there is over 67,500. They also state that from 1945 to 1990 there was 65 different types of nuclear warheads and 70 thousand warheads were made out of them. This bomb is not only dangerous by its explosive power, but also by its radiation effects after it has been

Midway through the 20th century, towards the end of World War II, one of the most feared and important weapons was fabricated. The nuclear bomb, also known as the atomic bomb, was first constructed by the United States, with the initial project starting in August of 1942 (“Nuclear Weapons”). The first atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima by the United States on August 6th, 1945, and on August 9th 1945 a second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki (“Science behind”). By dropping two nuclear bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the United States forced Japan to unconditionally surrender, which ended World War II. After the world saw the power of nuclear weapons, there has been a scramble for countries to obtain…

Weapons of all kinds have been used by humanity in wars, sometimes to instigate, and sometimes to make the best of a bad situation. In the case of the atomic bomb there has been a great deal of opposition to it: that it is not necessary to end the war and there are better alternatives to it. In actuality, the atomic is necessary to end the war, and it is not as “evil” as a weapon in war, as many seem to think. It will make the Japanese surrender without engaging in a more harmful and devastating invasion, it is not particularly unique in the amount damage it can cause, and it will stop the Japanese empire, which is belittling and destroying other populations in Asia.…

The atomic bomb is a bomb that rapidly releases energy causing destructive damage through heat. The atomic bomb dropped on Japan was not needed it was an evil act and was unnecessary. It was undoubtedly not required to drop a 4-ton barbaric weapon that is equivalent to 5 million dollars on another country. The United States Military had already launched a sea blockade that consisted of a submarine campaign before the bomb was dropped. It was cutting food and supplies. Not only was it already beaten by seas. There was a massive amount of air attacks; the United States already had control of the Japanese air space before the atomic bomb. With Majority control of Japans airs the United States conducted many raids on Japan causing extensive destruction by dropping over tens of thousands pounds of bombs. This had already caused massive destruction to towns and cities. It was a race towards who could have the first atomic bomb. When The United States Successfully accomplished the bomb it was at first a way to initiate Japan into Surrendering but the second bomb was a way to show superiority towards the rest of the world that America is very powerful. The alternative is what could have happened if the bomb was not used? Japan was already getting dominated by sea and by air they were being isolated and not allowed resources it was only a matter of time till Japan could have surrendered. If the bombs were not used there would not be near as many deaths and utter destruction. But we cannot no for sure if Japan could have surrendered or not, and if they did not surrender what could have been lost? Many American troops would have lost their lives. But instead of a civilian loss it could have been a military loss. Japan was already dominated by the United States they were running out of resources and did not have long until rioting would have started the United States was a huge problem for Japan. They were surrounded. The only…

Because of the wartime production boom of the 1940s, many scientific achievements and milestones were reached. Such advancements gave Americans a new range of convenient devices as well as new worries. During World War II, the U.S. monopolized nuclear weapons until 1949 when the U.S.S.R. developed their own devastating atomic weapons. As Nobel Prize- winning chemist Harold C. Urey put it, “There is only one thing worse than one nation having the atomic bomb; That’s two nations having it (Kagan 78).” However, to compete with Russia in the field of nuclear weapons, the U.S. created and detonated…

The Manhattan Project was a United States government research project where they produced the first atomic bomb. The project started in 1942, with only six thousand dollars in funding, and ended in 1945, when the first atomic bomb was produced. “ The atomic bomb took four years to produce about two billion dollars” (Moss 22). Dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was justified, that is why we dropped the bombs. The dropping of the atomic bombs saved many American lives, as well as many Japanese lives. Dropping the atomic bombs also ended World War II. Why shouldn’t we have dropped the atomic bombs on Japan? After all, Japan did not want to surrender and they were the hated enemy of the United…

The Manhattan Project was the allied effort joining scientists, military engineers, and dedicated American workers. Before the U.S’s involvement in the war, American scientists and government spies suspected Nazi scientists were experimenting with nuclear fission and weaponization of it. There were also a few major breakthroughs concerning nuclear energy and the delivery method that set us apart from any other group researching the topic.…

However, this is not the boiling point and utmost decisive conflict by either side. This initiated conflict between these two countries became a gradually increasing statistic of death, and these Japanese soldiers would rather suicide than face dishonored by unnatural demise, U.S. forces had difficulty in terrain taking an expense on casualty figures. Although, President Roosevelt at the time, began a secret plan called the “Manhattan project,” which would become the most pivotal dangerous weapon on earth and become the saving grace of the war? What were the leading factors in the United States dropping the atomic bomb on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Japan? The U.S. made its decision, these causing factors; to end the war quickly as possible, they lived by the Bushido code, the "Pacific Theater of Operations" was grueling and an insurmountable mountain to climb in duration and endurance, wanted to punish Japan for Pearl Harbor, and send a political message to Russia as an imitation tactic.…

Nuclear research all started when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, and the United States entered into World War II. When the United States realized that Germany attempted to build an atomic bomb, Americans began to concentrate on their research about creating an atomic bomb more heavily. President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the Manhattan Project, which included a group of top scientists, under General Leslie R. Groves, who worked around the clock to try to develop an atomic bomb within three years (Bondi 493). The Americans and the British combined their efforts to research the development of the bomb and created plants and factories to work in ("The Atomic Bomb…" 257). They created plants for three separate processes: electromagnetic, gaseous diffusion, and thermal diffusion. These plants helped create the plutonium and uranium 235 needed to manufacture the atomic bomb (Gerdes 142). The secrecy of the Manhattan Project was essential in order to develop the atomic bombs to end World War II.…
