Great Gatsby Movie
I chose The Great Gatsby to watch for my movie review because the movie gives you a look at how life was in the 1920s. The Great Gatsby was released in 2013 and is rated PG13 for violence and sexual content. The movie was 143 minutes long. Baz Luhrmann directed The Great Gatsby and takes place in 1922.

Leonardo DiCaprio played Jay Gatsby who bought a mansion across the lake from the love of his life (Daisy) who is now married. Casey Mulligan plays daisy who is in a hard place deciding whether to stay with her cheating husband or move on with Gatsby. Toby Maguire plays Nick Carraway who lives in small house next to Gatsby and is Daisy’s cousin.

In the book Daisy seems much more caring and loving and not so much of a snob. Another difference in the movie is that of the narration of, “the film was quite different from that of the movie, making the storyline change”.(Cunningham) The difference in dress between Nick Carroway in the movie compared to the way Daisy dressed is a stark difference and should be similar in dress as far as the time era is concerned. The largest part is that in movies one cannot portray everything in the book but the movie stuck to the exact same story line and was very weak in the character department because of the fact the characters in the book were not very well represented.…

However, in the story when he is murdered no one attends his funeral, but his father and only friend Nick. The reason no one shows up is because Jay was great for his accomplishments, not his character. Although he was called the “great” gatsby, he didn’t fit the full description. He wasn’t great for saving children from a burning building, donating money, or helping the poor. He was viewed as great for the things benefited other or his own unwonted accomplishments. He didn’t always have an easy life, but somehow still managed to end up on top for the most part. For example, Gatsby grew up in a very poor family. He wasn’t born into money or had wealthy family members. However, that didn’t stop him from becoming successful. Although he dropped out of college he still landed in a pile of gold. He managed to get hired to multi million dollar company and turn himself into a millionaire. Due to his wealth, people were always in his presence. Once he died, the care people had for him vanished along with his money. There was no need for them to attend his funeral if it wasn’t going to benefit them.
