Grease Play Analysis
Title of the play I went to see on April 21, 2017 is Grease. The theatre I had saw it in was at C.A Theatre and the company was Tarrant County Southeast Campus. The playwright of the play was by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey and the director of Grease is Steven D. Morris. My pre-show experience the first thing I saw was a person’s head, which I believe it, was the composer, which was cool because of how he rather stays hidden. In addition, I like how they had the curtains down with the title in bold letters, which made it exciting.
The play was mainly about how groups of teenagers who are trying to find love, make and have friendships, and to find yourself. The primary themes of Grease were love, friendship, and teen rebellious. The story was

The first actor I chose was Danny because of how he was bipolar with everything, which means he had to have different transitions of facial expressions and mood swings and Aaron fit that good. When his feelings keep on switching from Sandy to Rizzo the day of the picnic and how his expression towards them were different which amazed me how he can switch the feelings like that. One bad thing I would have to say is when he sang “Summer Nights” he did not start good because his voice cracked towards the middle. In Danny’s voice he had a clamming tone towards everyone but when he was around Sandy he had a soft tone in his voice except at times when he get angry with her. At times when he wants to be right, someone teases him or prove someone wrong his voice would go high and have a mad tone. Danny stayed joyful and goofy around his friends but when Sandy said things to get him down he would be sad because that showed how much he cared for her which put a twist on how love can do to you. Aaron put many facial expressions onto Danny character that was a good thing so I know as an audience member. Know that he is enjoying himself and putting thought into the …show more content…
The design is the play made the play the best part of the whole thing because of the color pop, which grab my attention. The set tied all of it together because of how the props and the scheme of the set was good and how it went with the overall scenes. The lights helped a lot because when the lights dim it showed that the scene was over and it was time to move the props and replace them with new ones. The lights would help when it was someone’s spotlight or when they are singing a song. The costumes help show what type of person that character is or their personality for example how Rizzo is outfit was mostly black and red which showed that she is a rebellious person and is badass. In addition, to watch out for Rizzo because of tight black leggings and her black and red top. The sound has also impact the transition of changing the set like for example the music would play when they were changing from the picnic scene but then the music starts to go low and that’s when you would know the a change of set is

When I first saw the play I payed no attention to the costumes but enjoy the overall play, which mean that costume designers did a good job. According to professor Landis, she says that costumes should not be the main focus but improve the overall environment of the play. Once I look back to picture of the play, I start noticing costumes. I find it beautiful how all the characters wore emerald, lively clothing to add to the wonder of Emerald City. I also notice that Elphaba has the famous wiked witch hat but the costume designer made modification that make it appear like the orignial hat, but it looks more suiting to a beautiful younge women. This production used a lot of change of set design as well as the use of expensive effects. For instant, during the scene were there is flying monkeys, the audience not only see a million monkeys appearing as if they are going to take flight but the huge dragon on top of the stage comes alive. During this scene the light technicitan uses red lights on the stage and the background is Elsabub castle. The use of red lights, loud sounds, and the…

It also helped the audience make sense of the setting because the transitions from scene to scene was quick and there was no background design. The lighting took my experience to a whole new level because it helped bring out all the characters and the settings. This play's setting was all dependent on the lighting because they used the lighting to establish the different settings and I think they were successful. It was the strongest statement in the production because not only did it help us, the audience but also the actors on stage to understand where the barriers were between different the rooms and helped make it look like an enclosed area.…

There was usually only one or two pieces that told you where the scene was taking place, but along with the lighting and sound, it was easily put together and it worked very well. The one problem I had with it was during the play I was under the impression that the room with the couch was some kind of common room for the building, but while reading the study guide, found out that it was supposed to be Fraulein Schneider’s room. This confused me because I don’t get why Fraulein Kost would be bringing her sailors through Fraulein Schneider’s room, but I guess they needed some place to show that part of the story. Also, there were times when there was just too much happening on stage and I got dizzy and confused as to what I should be paying attention to. Over all, I was impressed with their use of space and simplicity. Cabaret was performed on a thrust stage which also added to the feeling of unity and closeness between the performers and the audience. I think that in a play that is meant to make you feel like a part of the show, which Cabaret definitely is, this is important. It was one more way of pulling the audience in and making us “part” of the show. With this stage the action was happening within almost arm length of the front row and there was even a point at the beginning right before the show that actors were talking to the audience. It helped us relate more to the story then if they used a…

    Avenue Q Play Analysis

I like the set design of the play it looks realistic it seems like you are living in moment. For example, the wall was made of wood but the color contrast gave a realist impression. Also, the set design is important because it gives idea to audience where the setting of the play is located. Although the building in this play were relatively new, the original Broadway play set design was very worn out. In my opinion, if the play was old then the set design should look like the original Broadway play because on Avenue Q middle and lower class family leave. The apartment look like they leave on Avenue A. In additional, the costume is also important so the audience can figure out who they are. I think costume also show the personality of a character like upper, middle, and lower class and the costume designer of this play did great work. Especially, when two or three character wearing black cloths and the puppets were in red, blue, and green this shows the color…

One very notable performance for me was how quickly the more tame Reverend was able to switch characters and become his hot-tempered son Luke, who wasn’t afraid to do whatever it took to achieve justice. The difference between these two characters was like hot and cold and the actor who played both was able to change between characters fairly quickly so that it was almost difficult to tell that it was the same person playing a different character. I also found the scenes after Portia had been shot to be very moving and I really felt like the actors gave it their all. They were able to embrace the agony of not knowing if your child is going to make it and the difficulty of dealing with people trying to pity you.…

The play that my group and I read and presented was Behind Closed Doors, a play with the concept of, Tragedy in your past can affect your present if you do not let go and move on. The role I played was the director, which is a role in the theater, that’s very much so unappreciated. The purpose of the presentation project was to actually understand, hands on, what it takes to produce a Theatre play, and what the jobs and elements are to do so. In theatre, communication is key. Every job works in harmony with one another, and they all need each other to put on an incredible show.…

If the theater department at Newberry College was looking for a play to perform, I would prefer them to perform “Andre’s Mother.” This a short play that has only a few characters which were his friend Cal, his dad Arthur, his sister Penny, and his mother which the author refer to as ‘Andre’s Mother’, which is about Aids and gay people. Most of the play wasn’t about Andre, it was mostly about his mother, friends, and lover that he left behind when he died. As the play progress it gets deeper and deeper and gives the audience something to think about. It’s a bit on the melancholy side because of the death but at the same time the theme can open the eyes of those who can closely relate to it.…
