The Grand Canyon is in Arizona and its long-axis length is 227 miles. The width of the Grand Canyon is 4 to 18 miles. The Grand Canyon was carved by the Colorado River. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major component of preservation of the Grand Canyon area,visited on occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery. The Grand Canyon is a river valley in the Colorado Plateau,it is significant because of the ancient rocks. Temperatures on the North Rim are generally lower than those on the South Rim,due to the elevation average (8,000 feet or 2,400 meters above sea level). Access to the North Rim via the primary route leading you to the canyon (State Route 67) that is limited during the winter season due to the cause of road closures. Which temperatures average at about maybe 70 degrees at the highest and 35 at the lowest. The ancestral of the Colorado River responded to make its channel faster and deeper by cutting it a bigger path. The base level and the course of the Colorado River (or the Colorado River's ancestral equivalent) changed a long time ago when the river’s base level got opened by the Gulf of California. This increased the rate of erosion and nearly cut all of the Grand Canyon's current depth. The terraced walls of the Grand Canyon were created by differential erosion. A long time ago volcanic activity deposited ash and lava over the area which completely obstructed the river. These volcanic rocks are the youngest in the Grand Canyon. The Canyon’s walls have been carved a great bit from when it first got carved into the earth. The Grand Canyon’s west rim “Eagle Rock” named for its shape is considered sacred by the Hualapai Indians. The Ancestral Puebloan granaries are at Nankoweap
