Do you remember the day of your high school graduation? When everyone stood outside in their caps and gowns, and the proud feeling filling in the air. I remember the day I graduated very well because it’s my favorite moment in my life. My favorite photo of my friend and I is framed next to my diploma that sits on my desk. Whenever I see that photo I’m reminded of the emotions I felt: happy, proud, and relaxed.…
This was significant to me because I had dropped out of high school for awhile and was far behind. All my hard work to catch up paid off, because a year in a half after the class of 07’ walked I graduated and I got to make a speech in front of my peers and family, as well as Mayor Bob Walkup of Tucson.…
I know I’m very excited about it. As I’m getting my cap ready, decorating it and making plans with my friends; I’m reminded by my grandfather who, the day after his graduation, went to Vietnam, that not everyone gets this celebration. He didn’t get a graduation party; he didn’t get a bonfire with his friends. He walked off his graduation stage onto a plane headed for war. And how lucky are we that he did. That he and 2.5 million others did. These people didn’t get parties. They instead got flying bullets and little support from home. So please, in this time of joy for those of you graduating or celebrating a family member or friend’s graduation, do not forget of the Americans who, instead of celebrating, died on the battlefield. And instead of celebrating today as a day to barbeque and drink, remember that today, is a day of…
It was a warm and humid Sunday, my friends and I were at, JFK airport, waiting for our flight to depart we were heading off to, Denver Colorado for our senior trip, for months we worked vigorously to make this trip as memorable as possible, and finally when we were all in the airport, The excitement, the anticipation was overwhelming. We were scheduled to spend 4 days in Denver and we wanted every minute of our trip to be etched in our hearts forever, finally when the airplane took off we were set to embark on a journey that none of us will ever…
I woke up tired on a beautiful, sunny, Tuesday morning. It was the day I had to fly to San Francisco for my job on a cruise ship. I had been in between cruises, so I had taken the chance to come see my parents in Newark, New Jersey. Later I realized that it could have cost me dearly. I changed into my pressed, white, long sleeved shirt with khaki pants and my sailors hat that I had to wear for my job as a deckhand. I arrive at Newark Liberty International Airport a hour before my flight, where I hug my parents goodbye. I walk in and go through security easily and go to my gate and wait for thirty minutes until we would be able to board.…
I walked in holding the big bulky bags of clothing we wanted to take with us. I boarded the plane and heard the deep rich voice of the pilot announce” 12:03 takeoff time, destination, Orlando Florida”. We took off as swift as a bird and flew higher than the white puffy clouds.…
My heart beats like a drum as I board the plane to Kansas City. The airport intercom comes on, and I hear, “Attention all passengers, the flight to Kansas City is now boarding.” I give my mom and dad one last hug and walk slowly to the door. I find my seat and sit down.…
A bunch of my family members was at my graduation. They were very excited for me and cheering very loud because I was about to get my high school diploma. When I got to the gym, everybody was getting ready to walk to the football field. I was thinking that I had finally succeeded and reached the day I had been waiting on since ninth grade. I was happy that I finally reached my goal to graduate on the night that ended high school life and started my college life. Everyone was always asking me what I wanted to do in college after graduation, but I was not sure because I like to cook different things. It is always fun to try…
When I got off of the plane, the immense heat wave hit me with surprise, and almost took me down. The humidity was sticking to my skin and the lights were white, like clouds floating on the ceiling. As I recuperated after those blinding lights came the most boring part of the trip, waiting on our luggage. As we were waiting everyone was leaving and we only had 1 bag left. We were getting a little nervous when we saw everyone leave and we were the only ones with another 8 people, so we went to complain to the airline person. We asked her if she knew where our bag was. She turned to us with a disgusted look and said, “ yes sir your bag is on another plane coming towards El Salvador.” As my family and I exchanged looks we were displeased with…
I was lucky enough to be able to fly out to New York City, and experience things kids my age generally are not able to experience. It was amazing! Although we only stayed for a couple days, we were able to do much with the time we had. My family and I reached the top of the Empire State Building, walked about central parked, ate pizza, and much more. The hotel was beautiful, but we stayed in a tight room which my four family members and I could hardly fit in.…
That summer I was going into my third year of elementary school. My family and our close family friends had been intertwined for a long time. So furthermore decided to take this amazing trip to Hawaii as a new adventure for all the love kindled between our two families over the years. On our seventh day in Hawaii…
My first semester at the University of Texas at Austin, both because of my newfound desire to learn and the natural adjustments one…
I walked into the airport pushing only a pink stroller with a newborn baby girl and trying not to come in the way of rushing passengers. The ambience of the airport was very impressive. The lounge was brightly lit and tastefully decorated. Huge screens displaying the arrival and departure of flights greeted my daughter and me at different spots. It was a busy time of the day. There was a large number of people with baggage in tow, some standing in line before ticket counters and some proceeding towards different numbered gates. I was surrounded with madness. Everyone was in a hurry and had a place that they needed to be. I, on the other hand, was simply standing there, in front of the departing and arriving flights screen, waiting and watching patiently to see the flight number that my husband was to be arriving on. I was overwhelmed with so many different emotions. Excitement, happiness but most importantly nervousness took over my body. Which was odd because this wasn’t a new boyfriend, this was my husband. There wasn’t any reason I should be nervous, except for the fact that my husband was fixing to meet his precious newborn daughter for the first time.…
Many people think that going away to college is a bad idea but actually it is the best learning experience. Most people arte under the conception that all college students do is party and not study, and that if one was to stay home in their own environment that they would have better learning skills. Graduating high school is my first achievement, the day I graduated high school was one of the happiest and saddest day of my life. It was the happiest day of my life because this meant that I was no longer a child but an adult, I had endured the four years and I came out on top, I was ready to face the world on my own and the many adventures it possessed. It was the saddest day of my life because I said goodbye to my friends because we were all going in different directions and starting new phases in our lives, I said goodbye to the familiarity of high school and the comfort it offered I now had to prepare myself to experience the unknown world of college, I said goodbye to my teachers of four years and all the other educators that had impacted my life.…
