GPS BASED VEHICLE TRACKING

ABSTRACT

In this Project it is proposed to design an embedded system which is used for tracking and positioning of any vehicle by using Global Positioning Syste
(GPS) and Global system for mobile communication (GSM).

In this project P89V51RD2 microcontroller is used for interfacing to various hardware peripherals. The current design is an embedded application, which will continuously monitor a moving Vehicle and report the status of the Vehicle on demand. For doing so an P89V51RD2 microcontroller is interfaced serially to a GSM Modem and GPS Receiver. A GSM modem is used to send the position (Latitude and Longitude) of the vehicle from a remote place. The GPS modem will continuously give the data i.e. the latitude and longitude indicating the position of the vehicle. The GPS modem gives many parameters as the output, but only the NMEA data coming out is read and displayed on to the LCD. The same data is sent to the mobile at the other end from where the position of the vehicle is demanded. An EEPROM is used to store the mobile number.

The hardware interfaces to microcontroller are LCD display, GSM modem and GPS Receiver. The design uses RS-232 protocol for serial communication between the modems and the microcontroller. A serial driver IC is used for converting TTL voltage levels to RS-232 voltage levels.

When the request by user is sent to the number at the modem, the system automatically sends a return reply to that mobile indicating the position of the vehicle in terms of latitude and longitude.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based steering system that comprises a set-up of 24 satellites placed into the path by the U.S. Defense forces. The Global Positioning System was projected initially for military applications, although in the 1980s, the government permitted civilian use of the system. Notably, GPS works in any environment, wherever in the world, 24 hours on a daily basis. There are no payments or setup charges to exploit GPS, as it is free of charge. The GPS program provides significant capabilities to martial, communal as well as commercial users all over the world. Additionally, GPS is the strength of character for modernizing the universal air traffic system. Changes in technology and recent demands in the current system have resulted to efforts to modernize the GPS system and come up with the new generation of GPS III satellites with Next Generation Operational Control System. This essay discusses the functions, advantages and disadvantages of Global Positioning System in detail.…

This sub-system links all the other sub-systems to form the main system. Two power supply units were used to supply the system with power; one for a 12V fan coming from the mains and another for the Raspberry Pi. The main device used in this sub-system for controlling the other devices was the Raspberry Pi. All codes for image processing and audio processing were stored on a microSD card inserted into the Raspberry Pi. A static IP address was set for it which enabled communication with the mobile application through a local Apache server. The GSM/GPRS Module was programmed to send ‘AT’ commands which were used for sending the SMS and locating the device.…

Abstract – Sited in this paper is a new and innovative way on dealing of theft. Not only just one specific type, but all of in a same category where in the lost / stolen object is a smartphone or has a GSM and GPS in general. They may say that the tracking device is an old device that was used many ways already but people now a day do not have the luxury of having them. Due to not seeing where they will use it or some tracking device are just really expensive. The concept of the New Tracking Device (from here on now will be called NTD) is really simple. You text the smartphone or the device the password which has GSM and GPS (as regarded earlier) that enables and triggers the GPS of the device that will get the location of the device (more specifically the longitude and latitude). Translates it to an SMS to send you text messages or notifications where is its whereabouts every 5 minutes. That simple.…

GRPS-Based Distributed Home-Monitoring Using Internet-Based Geographical Information System A. R. Al-Ali, Imran A. Zualkernan, Assia Lasfer, Alaa Chreide, and Hadel Abu Ouda Abstract — Recent developments in publically available webbased Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and the availability of low-cost integrated General Packet Radio Service (GPRS)/Global Positioning Systems (GPS) modem have enabled the development of embedded stand-alone home monitoring systems. This paper presents the design, implementation and testing of a home-monitoring system that utilizes online Map from a GIS in conjunction with the readily available public satellite-based GPS, and GPRS mobile networks. In addition to detecting intruders, the system allows a home owner to remotely monitor various critical home sensors status including those tied to fire, flooding, and gas leaks.…

As a matter of fact, considerable changes have been introduced in the GPS based vehicle tracking systems over the past few years. Though new models of GPS vehicle tracking systems soon increased accuracy and precision, the GPS trackers sometimes fail in the task. Researchers therefore is focused further on the development of error-free and cost effective models, which can transmit the data as accurately as possible and henceforth it can be analysed by the fleet management software.…

A lot of mishappenings occur on the road every day .Therefore the need of security and monitoring is developed. To resolve such problems, a system is developed using GPS and GSM technologies. Real time web based tracking system using GSM and GPS technology will provide effective, real time vehicle location, mapping and reporting this information value to the fleet owners. The various problems that we face are: In critical condition (when vehicle is stolen) one is confused what to do, if one has something expensive and if he wants to check it regularly. All these problems are overcome by the system. This system has Global Positioning System (GPS) which will receive the coordinates from the satellites among other critical information. Tracking system is very important in modern world. This can be useful in soldier monitoring, tracking of the theft vehicle and various other applications. The system is microcontroller based that consists of a global positioning system (GPS) and global system for mobile communication (GSM). This project uses only one GPS device and a two way communication process is achieved using a GSM modem. GSM modem, provided with a SIM card uses the same communication process as we are using in regular…
