Functions of Management The four main function of management include planning, organizing, leading and controlling. All companies have many different ways to approach these functions and how it helps them run their business. These functions were derived from the book “Administration Industrielle et Generate” written by Henri Fayol in 1916 (Norman). With each function bringing a different aspect to the company, the functions help management in the business world. Google is one of the companies that uses these four functions within their company. In 2009, Google wanted to create a better management team. In order for this to happen, google need to gather information and analyze the data (Bryant 2011). Google implanted what worked for them as a company called “Project Oxygen”. The project consisted of the company gathering data from many variable and try to see any trends amongst management. Once the data was gathered, they tried to gather more data by interviewing managers to look for any type of information that would help back up their information. Once all the information analyzed, the results were than implemented into a training program to help the manager improve on any skills needed (Garvin 2013). Google planned to start a new process that would help management improve as a whole. Once the new training tools were implemented, many of the managers who were not considered the best had improved vastly. In July 2014, Google Inc. announced their results and changes for the second quarter. Within the report they make announcements about any changes within the company and their financial summary (Google Inc.). Although the report only mentions that the Chief
