“I’ll google it,” says somebody somewhere. Google’s name is becoming the eponym for searching anything on the internet. This recent habit can be attributed to the company’s growth into an internationally known brand since its inception in 7th September 1998 by Sergey Brin and Larry Page. Google is an international technology firm based in California with a broad range of products such as Google Glass and services like Google Wallet and Google Earth. (Google.com, n.d.) In this paper, I will delve deeper into Google to carry out a SWOT and PEST + C analysis plus understand a department’s operations.
Within Google’s organizational structure, the engineering and design department plays a vital role. They solve technological problems to impact positively on users through developing software that eases the interaction between people plus the accessibility and usefulness of information in the web. In addition, map out then build systems that support Google’s operations and match its growth. They work on networks-production and corporate- to identify which methodology, technology or architecture can deliver the experience needed by users. They also design visually appealing yet simple user interfaces in addition to branding products. Finally, the Site Reliability Engineering staff maintain and fix any problems that occur. (Google.com, n.d.)
Google is a public limited company trading shares on the NASDAQ stock market. Their Initial public offer was on August 18, 2004 at $ 85 per share. Their current price is $ 531 per share. (Reuters.com, n.d.) Public corporations should have a minimum of 2 members and a maximum of twelve in the board of directors elected by shareholders in the annual general meeting. They are limited to a minimum of 7 members and allowed on having an infinite number of members depending on the share capital they have. The law also requires them to make public financial
