An example of good writing would be anything by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. My favorite quote comes from his book Mother Night: "We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be." I enjoy his writing because it is satirical yet dark.

I am sure successful authors create some sort of outline or organization of their ideas before they begin writing in order to have some sort of focus.

Writing may come naturally to some people just like with any talent, such as sports, music or art. However, with

In Perry Westbrook’s literary criticism on Kurt Vonnegut, Westbrook states that Vonnegut emerged as one of the most influential and provocative writers in America during the 1960s. He supports this point by using examples of stories written by Vonnegut and giving a summary of each story he provides. Westbrook also talks about recurring ideas and themes in Vonnegut’s stories and Vonnegut’s ideals.…

Kurt Vonnegut passed away in 2007. If I had the chance to go back in time and smoke a Pall Mall with him, I wonder what I’d say. If I somehow managed to maintain my cool, perhaps I’d stare straight into his soul and mouth the words “So it goes” or as is the more probable outcome, crumble into a pathetic stuttering fanboy. I have probably read “Cat’s Cradle (1963)”, “The Monkey House (1968)” and “Slaughterhouse-Five (1969)” at least five times each and they are amongst my favorite books of all time.…

Good writing to me means knowing what you are doing. By this I mean you know how to use good grammar, punctuation, etc. I think a good writing piece will also have a noticeable start, body, and end. You know you have written something well when it clearly makes sense and there aren’t errors.…

The key topic I have learned that plays a huge role in the writing process is confidence. When writers are confident about their piece and they really love the way it has turned out, then it shows through the entire paper. Litature is a major contributory factor in a decade. In the 70s there were several break-out authors who we still read and look up to today. Among them are John Updike, Joyce Carol Oates, Kurt Vonnegut, Toni Morrison, Neil Simon, Sam Sheperd, Agatha Christie, Robert C. Atkins, Christina Crawford, Richard Nixon, Carl Sagan, and Stephen King. Robert C. Atkins is responsible for the Atkins Diet which has taken America by storm. Christina Crawford is responsible for the book Mommie Dearest, which gave an in depth view into the life of Christina Crawford growing up as Joan Crawford's daughter. Richard Nixon wrote the book Memoirs of Richard Nixon. And Stephen King debuted in 1979 with his first big name book, The Dead Zone. Toni Morrison was born Chloe…
