The concept of liberal arts education has been spread through different universities all over the world. This system of education gives students much more freedom that let them choose freely their majors, courses even their professors. Thus, it has been a great competition at the period of registration, as every student wants to catch a place in the class of the good professor. There is question that needs to be imposed here! Who is the good professor? Actually, not all students can insist on a precise definition for the good professor; some students see that good professors are the professors who give them an A disregarding good explaining and fair grading, other students consider good professors are good explainer and the remaining consider good professors are fair graders. There is a controversial issue here that students want to literally learn as they pay money and they want also to get a good grade due to paying money also. Therefore, there are many kinds of professors who are known as top ones to students and that differ according to each student’s attitude.
To begin with, the first kind of professors is an easy grader who is the most preferable kind to students in the university. Large proportions of students want a professor with zero workload, top grading, and no attendance and at the end they expect getting an A, however, this professor may explain or may not explain at all but this isn’t students’ concern who don’t care about learning. Easy grader professors most probably have a weak academic level, which annoys good students who really want to learn. For example, last semester I had to take a natural science course as a core curriculum, I took with a professor, which was extremely easy; she gives many bonuses through the whole semester, very easy assignments but I didn’t understand anything from the materiel she explained, she just read the slides so I struggle a

The author considers that the standard of a liberal arts education consists of five key elements. First of all, any educated person has to be able to lay out their ideas and opinions in a clear and efficient way both orally and in writing (Rosovsky 49). This component also implies critical thinking skills that are significant for development in society. Secondly, an educated individual should “have an informed acquaintance” with the major fields of study and the means by which knowledge can be gained (Rosovsky 56). The author does not mean that students of the liberal arts should be experts in various subjects. Instead, he merely offers an ideal to which every educated person should aspire. General knowledge of various disciplines is a prerequisite for liberal education. Thirdly, educated people have no right to remain “provincial” in the sense that they should adapt to the modern world and learn basics of other cultures and times (Rosovsky 57).…

In “Can a liberal arts education really make us better?” by Richard Kamber, he argues that even though a liberal arts education can make us better, it depends solely on that person’s definition of better. Now the question on everyone’s mind, “What are liberal arts?” A liberal arts education gives us a general review of humanities, arts, and sciences. Liberal arts are usually delivered in small classes, full of active participants, by “seasoned faculty.” They aim to develop our character and provide us with an immense amount of skills, which ultimately gives us more money. Though often looked down upon, liberal arts have helped shape many great people such as Socrates, Giordano Gentile, Galileo, and Martin Heidregger.…

An education in liberal arts can give a person many choices and opportunities concerning what kind of job he/she wants in the future. According to Harris’ “Once you develop good thinking habits, you will be able to perform better in any job, but more importantly, the happier life will be” (1), Harris suggests that liberal arts education helps to have a satisfying and comfortable life. When a person graduates from liberal arts education, he/she will get a gratifying job that will make him/her feel like he/she has a strong personality. Needle, Corbo, Wong, Greenfeder et al (2007) point out that liberal arts education is a good choice for the future to have more options for jobs, which they expressed in their article “Combining Arts and Science In ‘Arts and Sciences’ Education” published in the journal College Teaching on pages 114-120. The purpose of the article is to persuade us to study the liberal arts for a good life. The article has a positive tone because it is optimistic. The mode of the article is illustrative. The main idea of the article is to encourage people to study liberal arts because it can give them a better future. Needle et al states, “Today’s liberal arts education is viewed as preparing students for the real world” (114). Needle et al suggests that graduating with a degree in liberal arts will make you ready for real life. In addition, liberal arts will teach you and make you understand more about life. I found that the two articles are similar in their goal which is to talk about liberal arts and how it is important in a person’s life because a liberal arts education gives you more opportunities for a great job and a better…

Author Keith M. Parsons’s purpose was to briefly summarize the differences between high school and college to his future students. Parson begins his article by stating a few things that will guide you into becoming a successful student. He first wants to explain the difference between a teacher and a professor, “Teachers are evaluated on the basis of learning outcomes, generally as measure by standardized tests. If you don’t learn, then your teacher is blamed. However, things are very different for a university professor. It is no part of my job to make you learn. At university, learning is your job and yours alone. My job is to lead you to the fountain of knowledge. Whether you drink deeply or only gargle is entirely up to you”. (Parson, 1)…

A liberal arts education is advantageous in our development progress throughout life, by permitting us to perceive things in their completeness. In fact, studying liberal arts allowed me to link the information from a particular course with previous information from liberal arts courses, thereby, availing me to obtain further fullness in my understanding. This correlation process is a logical method of accessing and disclosing data that pertains to other data to create a systematic view that implements a more wholesome perception of the Sciences, ergo making me more versatile person.…

A common problem faced by incoming and returning students alike, is the task of selecting unfamiliar professors. Obviously, all students hope to select a good professor, but it is often a shot in the dark when selecting classes for the upcoming year. To combat this, I sat in on two different sections of the general education course. The course I chose was ECO 155 Principles of Macroeconomics. One section is taught by Dr. Julie Gallaway, and another section is taught by Dr. Mahua Mitra. My goal was to compare the two different teachers, and ultimately give my opinion on who was the better professor, using criteria such as organization, teaching style, and availability for questions, among others.…

Furthermore the article emphasizes three other points about the importance of a liberal arts education. First it says that a liberal arts education allows students to see things as a whole. Second it says that the education contributes to student’s happiness, and lastly that it makes students better teachers. Although I feel like all of these points should have a significant impact on one's choice to attend a liberal arts institution. I feel like learning how to think, be a better learner, and enhancing our wisdom and faith should have a significant impact on a student's decision about which insulation that will continue their education at. Personally, I hold these three values very close to my heart. It is my wish for every student to consider these six points among many others when choosing a higher education institution. An education decision about your future is the best decision an individual can…

It is well known that students' rating of instructors is perhaps the most widely used method of assessing instructor effectiveness (Centra, 1993, 2003). Many issues concerning validity of student evaluations have been examined including bias (Marsh, 1984), which was found to be minimally present based on the grade the student expected to receive (Centra, 1993, 2003), and student characteristics (e.g., grade point average, academic ability, gender, age); which some studies found did not affect student evaluations (Centra & Creech, 1976; McKeachie, 1979; Centra, 1993, 2003), and some studies found did affect student evaluations (Basow & Howe, 1987).…

There seems to be a notion that the professor makes a class great. Students who do not enjoy a particular subject can at least find a class engaging with the right kind of professor. In universities and colleges across the nation students have caught onto a system in which they can review professors and release these reviews to help future students make judgments and decisions of what classes to take with which professors. There are universal platforms, like RateMyProfessor.com as well as more school-specific platforms that provide such services. While these platforms assist countless numbers of students every semester, there are also some dangerous social traps that users of such services fall into. It is common knowledge that first impressions…

Liberal arts education is unique in the sense that learning is not geared to one specific vocation, but rather is based on broad learning. This ‘broad learning’ is made up of several diverse courses and can potentially be geared towards many different professions. For example, a curriculum may include courses from literature, languages and art to sociology, mathematics, statistics, biology, and even economics and political science! The authors of the article Defining Liberal Arts Education aim to define liberal arts education more precisely in order to outline its benefits as well as its necessity in the educated and progressive individual.…

Now what most students usually receive are the Bi-Polar professors, which are the ones who are one minute cool and next their extra fern. With this kind of professor, students need to watch out. Sometimes they tend to lead students on to think that everything is fine and that they will help them. When in reality it is the complete and utter opposite, they come off cool to students in the beginning. Then all of a sudden; they do a whole 360. It is like they turn into a complete stranger, and then it is downhill from there.…
