Good People Research Paper
Good People “In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart.” This was quoted by Anne Frank from her diary. She was forced to hide out in an annex for two years because of her religious beliefs. This young, bubbly girl was malnutrited for two years yet, she still believed everyone was good inside. I would like you believe the same as Anne. People express their goodness by showing generosity, joining helpful groups, and by turning a horrible situation into something positive. Many members in our own community show their good side by giving to others or being generous. For instance, Yough Intermediate Middle School, our school, is a perfect example of this generosity. Earlier this school year, the town of Connellsville, Pennsylvania had a massive flood destroying twenty nine homes and injuring nearly three hundred fifty residents. As a school community we organized a hat day. During this day, any student who donated one dollar or more the the Connellsville flood was allowed to wear a hat. Every last cent we received went to this cause. Similarly, my mother works with a lady named Elizabeth, more commonly known as Liz. Liz was diagnosed with …show more content…
Junior Honor Society, JHS, and Community Action Program/ Students Against Destructive Decisions, Cap/Sadd are marvelous examples of these. While in JHS I have volunteered for working at the science fair, family fun night, tutoring younger kids, collecting breakfast passes, and collecting money for causes such as, the Connellsville flood. Likewise, Cap/Sadd has also opened me up to more opportunities to volunteer for wonderful causes. Events such as walks to raise money for parks, DUI awareness, drug awareness and other events such as the YIMS drug symposium are all great affairs I personally have volunteered at through Cap/Sadd. Groups and organizations are all fantastic ways to show your good

The second organization that I had the opportunity to volunteer for is Goodwill Rescue mission. They created this organization in 1896. Under the leadership of Rev. Lawrence Sutherland, the purpose of the organization moved from being a struggling institution to one with a nationwide reputation. They shared the love of God in Christ by providing food, shelter, spiritual guidance and instruction for the poor and the homeless in Newark. According to Goodwill Rescue mission, they affiliate with helping the individuals directly rather than send them someplace else to fend for themselves. The program is also working with some of these individuals to get them back on their feet to fend for themselves. They have to go through programs if any of them…

Each year in November I volunteer at The Basket Brigade. We assemble boxes full of food for the less fortunate to have for Thanksgiving/the holiday season. After assembling the boxes we each take 4-5 and deliver them to anyone who has requested them. This opportunity is very eye opening, it shows you how much a little kindness goes and how thankful people are that you care. I have also volunteered at Feed My Starving Children for the last few years. This organization allows you to help pack food to send to children across the…

Volunteering for service hours changed my outlook on life. I worked with the Hydrocephalus Association in both eleventh and twelfth grade. The Hydrocephalus Association focuses on three things community, clarity, and cure. Hydrocephalus is a condition defined by an abnormal, excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the cavities of the brain. Some people with this condition can live a normal life being unnoticeable while other have difficulties. The association works on awareness to find a cure, clarity in helping families further understand the condition, and a community which will always be supportive. Service hours can sometimes be a hassle but once I started volunteering with that association it became fun because I was…

After being a part of Key Club throughout my high school years, I learned how to give back to the community that has raised me and the conspicuous impact I can have in someone’s life simply through volunteering. Through Key Club, I help create service projects with local organizations and give members of our club an opportunity to volunteer and give back. One experience I will never forget is helping set up a blood drive in school with one of our local organizations, Bloodworks Northwest, a local blood bank that helps saves lives through research, innovation and education in blood. Our Key Club had to inform the school of the event that was happening, and encourage students to donate blood. It required hours of creating posters, informing the…

As people mention the virtue, generosity, they always conceive of an image of a wealthy philanthropist who donates his money to people in need. However, in my opinion, the concept of generosity exceeds the narrow connotation of giving to others, and not only can rich people become generous; rather, generosity comprises of empathy to share others’ feelings, magnanimous tolerance towards other people, and returning to them with kindness.…

By giving your time and showing compassion for the people in need you will help them to feel comfortable getting the assistance that is so necessary to their survival and health. Volunteering is a way to help that has the ability to give back. There are many great benefits to volunteer work, and not only by helping people in need. According to Shayla in Benefits of Volunteering in College, volunteering can also "build your network", "strengthen your resume", and of course give you the knowledge to better understand the people you are giving your time to (Shayla). Building your network will be a vital part of life when trying to find jobs, internships, and make business connections. People you meet through volunteering have the ability to forever affect your life and may well continue to be a part of your life for years to come. What better place to meet people who share the same drive to help others as you do than at an organization who helps feed Americans in need? These hours will not go unnoticed on your resume either. "Scholarship committees love to learn how youth are helping their communities." These hours will not only be valued by the people they help, as you spend time helping others your outlook on life is changed by the skills and real life experience you gain from it. While giving your time you will see that people who are in need are no different from…

Respect. We would all love for people to treat us the same way that we treat them. Some people do not realize that what they say or what they do can really hurt someone, or possibly have a negative impact on them for the rest of their lives. I always say be cautious, and always stay wise to the actions you take, especially when it comes to someones feelings. You never know what someone could be going through in their life, so sometimes it is always better to be kinder to one another.…

Clara never thought today would be her last day. She thought she had all the time in the world. She never thought she would be smashed by something she loved so much...her new Christmas tree. One day, just before Christmas, Clara decided to be festive and go get a real tree to decorate. She and her sister Macy went to the tree farm and started to look for the perfect tree. All the sudden, they came around the corner and saw... the perfect tree. They slowly walked up to the tree and then started hacking down. They had almost got the tree when suddenly it fell and suffocated them in it's branches. They both died instantly and went to heaven. The journey had begun.…

This past summer I was part of the leadership staff at Camp Howard. I was a unit director for the 1st and 2nd graders who came to camp for the day. This unit consisted of 30 campers and 4 counselors whom I was in charge of. I am also the treasurer of the College of Democrats and I volunteer with multiple organizations. For example, I help students and community members register to vote and I work closely with the office of Lane County of Democrats. I volunteer with the National Society of Collegiate Scholars by holding toy drives for homeless shelters. Another service experience I've had is volunteering with the Sparrow Club in my hometown. Philosophy of Charity

    • 989 Words
    • 4 Pages

When it comes to charity, morality, and concern for one another, humans tend to vary drastically on how we feel and act depending on the circumstance and the individual. What makes this issue so complex is the fact that we are naturally set to want to help one another and be kind (in most cases) while at the same time being naturally focused on the survival and wellbeing of ourselves and loved ones over most other things. These natural settings, of course, are all influenced by the individual’s life situation. For example, a person with no family may be more willing, if willing at all, than a person with three kids to run into a burning building to save a random stranger from apparent death. What keeps us from helping others and what makes us help others is different for every individual. Although these differences may vary incredibly, there tends to be a shared feeling of the “greater good” that most experience.…

    People Helping People

My interpretation of “people helping people” is “people helping people” can be looked at as a selfless act of encouragement to one individual or a whole community. By helping those with a certain need to only get the profit of satisfaction is a fundamental philosophy to keep our society well-endowed and strong as a community. I have personally demonstrated this in my community by participating in my school’s Operation Christmas Child to help children across the world see what a better life is and to help them reach it on earth, and with God. I also volunteered for four summers at our City’s Park’s Program as a junior counselor, watching children and giving them a place to enjoy their summer outside and also educate them as we took field trips to the Corning Museum of Glass. I personally have lived by my own interpretation of the selfless philosophy of “people helping people”…
