Good Afternoon Chief: A Short Story Of An Army Officer
Good Afternoon Robert, Thanks for the clarification. I understand now what you mean when the older officers are just riding out the last few years and if they stay longer it does not open any opportunity for younger crew to move up. I did experienced it a few years ago and at that time technology was not as present as it is today. Let me tell you that sometime a fourteen hour shift felt like a twenty four hour shift. Today, most of our officers are from the Generation X and most of them adapt really well to the newer generations. Our chief is from the late Gen X and our deputy chief is from the younger Gen X. I thing we are lucky for that matter cause they did adapt extremely well.

    6. INTRODUCTION: All is Quiet on the Western Front begins with Paul Bäumer's company at rest, five miles behind the front lines between Langemark and Bixschoote. They have had very little sleep for the fourteen days since they relieved the front line and seventy of their one hundred and fifty men are dead at the hands of Russian gunfire. The cook, Ginger, has fixed rations for the one hundred and fifty and, after arguing with the lieutenant, grudgingly consents to give all the food to the eighty soldiers left, including double rations of smokes. As the narrator remarks, "Today is wonderfully good."…

This novel captured my interest and held it to the final chapter! I not only learned about the history of World War II, but also of the emotional impact it had on soldiers and their families. The Gunderman family was a family devoted to each other. The realization that their oldest son, Jimmy, had to fight for his country was devastating to them. The main character, Earl, was the younger half-brother. He described himself as the weaker of the two. He and Jimmy were close and enjoyed being together. He vividly detailed the emotional struggles they went through as a family during the war and how they overcame the struggles together by trusting in each other.…

In the short story, “How to Tell a True War Story,” the implicit problem that is created about the story by its first line, “this is true,” is that the readers may think the line is sarcasm and not believe the information being said. The readers will question if the story is true or not. Throughout the story the narrator says how many war stories are not true so I do not know what to believe. The author, Tim O’Brien, says that nothing can be believed to be true, which makes the story ironic. He says, “In war you lose your sense of the definite, hence your sense of truth itself, and therefore it’s safe to say that in a true war story nothing much is ever very true” (95). I would think that this story is not true after that being said.…

He had a poor work ethic, and worst off, he was indifferent to the whole ordeal; and so, later that year, his parents enrolled him in Fork Union Military Academy. When establishing a goal plan and putting steps in place to reach those goals, I must ensure that I have the proper support and resources. It is important to have people to rely on, share similar experiences with, and receive advice from. My former Chief Controller and mentor, retired CMSgt Dave Cannon is whom I feel is the best person to ask for that support. As a Chief who spent 30 years in the Air Force and as my first Chief Controller, he posses all of the leadership traits that I strive to emulate, he is who I look up to as a leader. Chief Cannon was my facility manager for the first four years of my Air Force career. I have yet to meet a leader in my chain of command who demonstrated all three adaptability elements, and was excellent at adjusting his leadership styles and FLRD behaviors as needed. He played the role of a facility manager, a leader of Airmen, a family member, and a friend. He was always adjusting, knowing what hat to wear depending on the situation. He is the type of leader I strive to become.…

In the chapter “How to Tell a True War Story, by O’Brien , O’Brien tend to use a lot of surrealism throughout the soldier's stories. When the soldiers tell their story they tend to add things to it to make the story seem more fascinating to those listening to it, which leads to it having surrealism in it. However, that’s when people start to question if it’s actually true or not true , that’s an answer nobody really wants to know. O’Brien stats, “ A true war story is never moral.” It does not instruct nor encourage virtue, nor suggest models of proper human behavior.”(65) The story basically tells itself , it will leaving one feeling some type of way at the end if true.…
