Going Back to School my life’s destiny
ENG 121 English Composition I
April 16, 2011 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Destiny, Life and Legacy these three words have so much power behind them than one could imagine. These three words have been made up the web of my life. Destiny is something that is to happen or has happened to particular person or thing, it’s the predetermined, usually inevitable or irresistible course of events. It’s the power or agency that determines the course of events. We all have a destiny it’s our purpose in life. Not everyone discovers their destiny but those that do are the few lucky ones. Life is what we make it. We

When I am asked what motivated me to go back to school I would definitely have to say my children. I am very strict on them when it comes to their education. One day I sat there and thought about what it was that I wanted to do with my life. I have always considered myself to be an artist; I am a creative deep soul that enjoys anything that will allow me to express my creativity. I have always had a passion for photography. Therefore I knew that that is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I always felt that there were two types of jobs, one that makes a lot of money which is the realists job the nine to five jobs that most people do but hate. Then there’s the handful of people that follow their passion. In an online article it states, “In a world of mounting economic pressure driven by intensifying global competition, passion is essential to the kind of performance improvement needed to succeed.” Without passion people will be choosing between the lesser of two stresses: stress from being unemployed versus the stress of being in a dead-end job. I am aware that photography is a competitive career and only the best make the most money but that is not my reason for purposing this career it’s for the art of it. A dream of mine has always been to open up my own photography studio.
Once I decided what I wanted to do I started searching online and researching different colleges. I could have gone into an Art college but I decided that I would earn a degree in business first. Once I receive my degree in business I will then focus on getting my Bachelors in photography/ graphic arts. I looked up many colleges and I chose Ashford University. After talking to the student advisor it just seemed to fit so I enrolled in the business program for my Associates

In my previous experiences and conversations with various individuals, the overall interpretation or misconception of bipolar disease is that the person is “”crazy. What do people really consider or mean by the term crazy? As displayed by Team B’s behavior presentation, Bipolar disorder is a mental illness that is also referred to as maniac-depressive illness, characterized by unusual changes in the persons energy, mood, activity level, and how they are able to follow through with day-to-day activities (Bipolar Disorder, P. 1). The first lesson in differentiating the difference in “crazy” and bipolar is that a person can live a close to normal, if not completely normal life with proper care and treatment.…

Everyone has to work for a living. The choice is yours whether or not you enjoy it. I am fortunate that I enjoy my career field; I just don’t love the monetary benefits. This, among many other reasons, is why I decided to go back to school. Obtaining a job that pays better, showing my kids how important having an education is, and challenging myself to make a better life for my family are the reasons why I went back to school.…

One of the biggest fears of college students is gaining an excessive amount of weight. As most UMass students know, the school’s dining commons are currently ranked second in the United States by the Princeton Review. When I began attending school, the term “Freshman 15” was a common term that was often spoken about amongst my friends. The term “Freshman 15” refers to the amount of weight which is expected to be gained in the first year of college because of the easy access of food. I always looked at the “Freshman 15” as a myth before college. I wanted to learn more about UMass Amherst’s food. I wondered if it could be possible that UMass could be ranked as having one of the best dinning commons in the country and also have healthy…

The freshman 15 is a real thing and for adolescents heading off to college, they should make sure to be cautious of their eating habits. With 142 million Americans being obese, it has become more of a problem with people of all ages, but college freshman have a history of gaining weight when they arrive at school. People speculate that the behavioral, environmental, and occupational changes cause this, along with stress, exercise habits, and the fact that food is available at all times. No matter what the cause is, gaining weight in college is a real problem.…

The ethical issues I think I would have to be aware of would be making sure I first off, don’t commit “UPL”, by giving Ms. Barnum any legal advice concerning her pending divorce. Also I have to make sure that I’m doing everything by the Model Rules of Professional Conduct and Ethics. I want to make sure that my work product is being supervised by the lead attorney Mr. Conner. And all my conversations and meetings with Ms. Barnum would be in the strictest for confidence, due to the Rule of Confidentiality. Also I have to make sure that I document how many hours I work on anything regarding Ms. Barnum’s case, so that I don’t cheat her of the time I actually spent on her divorce case.…

Fear and compassion are two very different feelings that equally drive individuals. Many assume that fear and compassion have absolutely no relationship due to the fact that they are polar opposite emotions that people usually do not associate with each other. Even though they are two very different emotions, fear can be used to express one’s inner compassion. Fear and compassion are two of the most prevalent emotions used in regular human interaction, but unlike compassion, fear is obviously dreaded in society due to the fact that humans in general do like to face and deal with adverse conditions. Leslie Bell, in Hard to Get: Twenty-Something Women and the Paradox of Sexual Freedom, talks about women in early their twenties facing fear about their identities. Robert Thurman’s “Wisdom” speaks about how his experience of becoming a monk taught him to release his inner “self”. And Charles Siebert speaks about the relationship between humans and elephants in the “Elephant Crackup”. Through all of these stories it is clear and apparent that deep and intense fear drives and motivates individuals to become much more compassionate and understanding.…

As seasons change, and the school year progresses, many students lose that “first day of school excitement” (I know that I do!) (parenthesis) that they once felt. So how do we regain that joy that once filled us? The answer is simple, year round school. Having school year round will enable students to expand their knowledge, decrease the time during which kids are idle when they tend to get into the most trouble, and reduce the stress levels of both teachers and students.…

The belief that liberal arts is extra, just for fun, not useful, worthless, a waste of money, unproductive, futureless, (any or all of the above) is quite frankly a ludicrous claim. Many adults have engrained in their minds, sure that it’s fine to take as a course in school, but it’s never going anywhere, it’s never going to land a career, a job, a lifestyle. The stereotype for ‘worthless’ majors is always liberal arts degrees (whether is philosophy, art history, or Russian literature, they have all been thrown under the bus). In actuality, liberal arts degrees and careers are crucial in today’s day and age, and can often lead to well-paying jobs. When a student decides to go to art school, they are often faced with criticism and other people…

One of the most important decisions of my life was choosing to go back to school. I was 30 years old, raising two kids at the time, and the last thing in the world I wanted to do was go back to school. I had previously attended cosmetology school and received a degree in its study. I had been working as a stylist for 5 years but it just was not enough. I needed to support my family and live comfortably and working under someone else’s authority could not fulfill my goals and dreams. One dream of mine is to one day own my own salon and become a successful business owner. I knew that a cosmetology degree could not teach me the skills needed to run a business and be successful. This is when I began thinking that I should go back to school for a business management degree. There was only one thing on my mind at this time, my age, I wondered if I could handle college at this point in my life.…
