Title: Dignity: It’s Value
Thesis Statement: “Dignity of a person doesn’t really matter due to temptations like money and lust but still, some people value it.”

I. Introduction A. General Background
What is dignity? We sometimes encounter this word, some might be familiar. But what is it? Can it be given importance? Can it be forgotten? Well those questions will depend on you, your actions and the way you bring yourself. Dignity means being respected for who you are and what you believe in. That’s something that can be done in both big and little ways. Like saying please or lending a helping hand are ways of showing dignity. Sharing your toys with others or making a donation to a charity are ways of showing dignity too. The movie I chose to watch was Glory (1989). Glory is the story of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first formal unit of African American men, led by Colonel Robert Shaw, whom I have chosen to compare. The Colonel is a white man who fights the bigotry of the enemy, who have vowed to kill any officers who lead the troops and by his own commanding officers who have kept them out of the war to do their dirty work. Colonel Shaw starts the War eager and zealous for the fight, the battle of Antietam leaves his disillusioned and wounded.…

When you have nothing your dignity keeps you going. The author of “Unbroken”, Laura Hillenbrand explores the concept of dignity as a basic need. In “Unbroken” Louis Zamperini’s dignity fueled his battle to survive. When his dignity was compromised his will to live started to diminish. People cannot live without brightness, so they invented electricity and lamps. In some words, people are afraid of living in the dark. However, not all individuals would have the opportunities to see brightness and some of them only can stay in the darkness to understand the world. Through the darkness, people would redefine their self identities and reconsider who they are. In the article “The Mind’s Eye,” the author Oliver Sacks examines different solutions of different people when they face blindness as adults. Sacks explores a new perspective and creativity of the brain when people lose their sense of sight. People would gain a new ability or reshape their identities when they face darkness. In some aspects, those girls who live under…

In my personal opinion, respect comes with a lot of admiration, and value. I only say that because in current day reality respect is not just given to you, it has to be earned but in my reality it would just be given. That would make it a lot easier in a world where there is war, hatred, and straight out genocide! If people could just give respect and not “fight” for it or have to “earn” it, the world where everyone is treated dignity and respect would make it a complete reality. The word dignity in my mind means pride, worth, and nobility. These three words come to mind because having dignity is something that gives you your pride, your worth, and for nobility it gives you self-confidence.…

In the novel The Remains of the Day there is a recurring theme of dignity and respect. There is the dignity of Stevens and the people that he meets along the way on his journey across the English countryside. He also comes to the realization that his former lord may not have been the man he thought he was. The most profound form of dignity is that of Stevens, in being an English Butler he has been raised to do his job in one way. He is supposed to be the proper gentleman never letting anything faze him or distract him from his work. When he does his job he feels dignified because it's all he has ever known how to do. "Dignity, according to the Oxford Dictionary, is "a composed and serious manner/style, the state of being worthy of honor or respect"."…

The Young Man in the portrait is sitting up straight seeming very proper yet calm. He displays confidence while his hand touches his sword. This shows his strength and his clothes may depict his power. The numbers on the table can also represent his intelligence. All of these factors play into Mirandola’s On the Dignity of Man because it represents all good attributes of man that correlate with man’s creation. The man’s attitude is very calm and confident and, what I noticed, was that the man is looking…
