God and Abram
To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.” (Genesis 3:16)
In the scripture God dictated a punishment to the women. At the moment of laboring a child the women are to suffer a lot of pain. Also we can see how God sentenced the women to submit to their men. We can interpret that at the moment God was really mad at the women. God curses the women for not obeying his command. She did what she wanted to do and did not follow God’s commands.
“When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” (Genesis 6:1-3)
The meaning of this verse is that the sons of God are angels. They noticed how beautiful the women were and they choose the more attractive ones; they took them as their wives. We can see how women are a temptation to men, because even the angels could not resist to the beauty of women. Sometimes people sin against God without thinking of the consequences. The result of these bad decisions was that God made their days of life shorter and God spirit would not remain with man continually.
“Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be blessing. I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Genesis 12: 1-3)
The call to Abram is a promise of his obedience. God promise to Abram a new land for his descendants and God will show him the way. God gave Abram a blessing promise and he will curse those who do not like Abram. The same way that Abram was called to

In the Bible Genesis 3:16,page 161 in our text book, God is talking to Adam and Eve after the apple tasting debacle and He says, “I will terribly sharpen your birth pangs, in pain shall you bear children. And for your man shall be your longing, and he shall rule over you.” As punishment for the sin, and clearly placing men above women in the hierarchy scale, He punishes Eve harshly. Adam gets in trouble as well but it was “ Because you listened to the voice of your wife and ate from the tree that I commanded you .You shall not eat from it.” This almost gives Adam a pass on the sin of eating the apple but gets Adam in trouble…

The biblical context of Genesis, divides it into two sections. Genesis 1-10 describes the creation story and the flood. Genesis 11-50 provides the genealogy of Abraham’s family, back to Noah, followed by the tradition of the earliest ancestors of Israel (Abraham, Isaac and Jacob known as the ‘Patriarchs’) wherein their faith is rooted and articulated (Brueggemann, 2003:43.) It is essentially a book of promises, a preface to the history of the Israel; identifying the nation of Israel and its God (Barton 2001:39).In Genesis 12 we see God choosing Abram, like Noah. A relationship ensues whereby Abram obediently follows God’s commands. God graciously acts in his life, providing him with a much wanted son and heir from his barren wife, Sarai. Abram pleases God who establishes covenants (God initiated agreements with man (Holdsworth 2005:59) with him, renaming him Abraham (and his wife Sarah); making them founders of the nation of Israel. The final chapter finds Jacob and his family in Egypt; precluding a central storyline the ‘Exodus’ ;the foundation of Jewish history and faith (Barton…

Abram was promised by God that He would give him and his descendants this land (Gen. 12:7). The time Abram left from Ur to go to Canaan was around 20th – 19th century B.C.E.…

The very creation of women was a punishment to mankind. Out of Zeus' anger toward Prometheus, came Pandora, the first woman. Hesiod explains the thoughts of immortal gods and mortal men as they first glanced at the beautiful creation as “sheer deception, irresistible to men. / From her is the race of female women, / The deadly race and population of women, / A great infestation among mortal men.” (373-376) The only reason women live in this world is because of the sins of one male figure. Women have no other purpose in Hesiod’s words than to be the bad that upsets the good in the world.…

Another similarity between the two stories is the lesson it teaches about women. An idea that can be gathered is that women are the ones that spread lies and evil throughout the world. So essentially, what the two stories mean are that women are the root of evil and only cause trouble for men who otherwise would be happy and without suffering as Adam and other mortal men were before women did what they were forbidden to do.…

The figurative language in this verse represents a 3 1/2 year time frame. We are told in verse 17 of that same chapter that Satan is furious, because he is unable to attack these people. So, He goes and makes war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments, and have the testimony of Jesus. Prophetically, the woman represents the raptured church that is being protected under the huppah of heaven, while those on the Earth are going through the Tribulation. The 3 1/2 year time frame marks the middle of the Tribulation period when the antichrist will break the false peace that he made with Israel, and he will demand to be worshiped. The situation on Earth will be terrible and unimaginable at this time for those who made late decisions, and missed the boat, so to…
