Gloria Scene Analysis
(In this scene Victor receives information and Gloria’s file from Becky on Golden Hands. Gloria is then sent back to the Golden Hands Rest Facility for Young Prodigies. Gloria hates being in Golden Hands and its overly cheery staff. The scene then goes drastic when Gloria escapes. Scene Note- There is not a lot of monologue from Gloria.)
(The scene starts with an eerie car ride similar to the one in the prologue, as Victor takes Gloria to Golden Hands. During the car ride Victor has a flash back of receiving the Golden Hands information with monolog from Becky in the following):
BECKY: Vic, I am sorry about what happened last night. When you said you lost Maria and you were afraid of losing Glory too, I didn’t know what you meant. Now I know.

VICTOR: Why would I do that? Of course not. I will come visit every chance I get.
GLORIA: Am I ever going to get better…?
VICTOR: They’re going to help you Glory. I know it. Here I got you something. (Hands a present). You can open it later, but just know, I’ll be fighting for you Glory. You’re my baby girl and I will always love you.
GLORIA: I love you too dad…
(Gloria wipes away tears and begins to walk away with the nurse.)
ALLISON: Do not worry Mr. Fleming. Your daughter is in the safest, most loving hands this side of the US. We treat all of our patients like family, and plan our steps to a happier future.)
(Scene goes to the Nurse showing Gloria to her room).
NURSE: Here you go Ms. Fleming, here is your room. It has the standard accommodations of all of patients here. If there’s something you do not like or something that you need just ring this bell here, and I’ll hurry to assist you.
(Gloria sits down to open the present to find it to be a blue boxing robe. Gloria looks at it lays down and cries herself to sleep. The scene then goes to Victor some days later eating lunch with Becky and John).
VICTOR: I can’t believe it’s been almost eight

I’m sure she just really misses you.
(Victor’s cell phone rings. Victor picks up and it is from Golden Hands.)
ALLISON: Hello is this Victor Fleming?
VICTOR: Yes this is Victor, is there something wrong with Gloria? I was told I couldn’t contact her for eight weeks is she ok?
ALLISON: Calm down Mr. Fleming, Gloria is doing just fine. She is eating regularly and sleeps through the night. In fact, she’s made a new friend, and the two of them enjoy sewing and watching TV together. However I would just like to check in with you that she insists on practicing far more than the two hours we recommend. After breakfast, Gloria will usually disappear into one of our practice rooms, and then not reemerge until dinnertime.
VICTOR: Well what is she playing? Didn’t you say your facility used music therapy?
ALLISON: Well see that’s the thing… A member of our staff has informed me that Glory only plays Chopsticks, and that she will play the song, in various, incarnations, for hours every day. I realize that Glory’s stay here has been much longer than usual, but I recommend that she remain with us through the holidays.
VICTOR: What that is crazy! Can’t I at least come see

The whole scene where Victor is going to buy a creamsicle from 7-11 is a great example of how Victor realizes that he could never be a part of the white culture. The “graveyard shift cashier” (pg. 181) is used to represent the stereotypical white person, who Victor has to try and win over by “proving” he is not dangerous, and will not hurt them. He breaks the ice by asking the worker if he knows all the words to the Brady Brunch theme song (pg. 184). This question is followed by a startled look and then a laugh, which shows the ease of tension on the cashier’s part. The ease of tension on the cashier’s part displays that Victor had succeed in breaking the stereotype…

In this candidate’s facility, shift report is being done away from the patient bedside, usually at the nurses’ station, in a doctor’s charting room or outside of the patient’s room in the hallway. When a patient is admitted to Women’s Services at this candidate’s hospital, a flier is placed in the admission folder with the title “Our Promise to our Patients…” The first two bullet points outline our promise to include the patient and their family in all aspects of their care plan. One of those aspects is including the patient and their family—if the patient wishes to include their family—in a bedside report.…

His entire mood and aura changes: “Employed in the most detestable occupation, immersed in a solitude where nothing could for an instant call my attention from the actual sense in which I was engaged, my spirits became unequal; I grew restless and nervous” (120). His mood is changing and he can sense a familiar uneasy feeling of sickness growing in his stomach. His experiment continues, and deep down he understands how unethical his experiment must be: “I looked towards its completion with a tremulous and eager hope, which I dared not trust myself to question, but which was intermixed with obscure forebodings of evil, that made my heart sicken in my bosom” (120). He senses how wrong creating this creature is, and how much evil it could very likely bring. Victor is caught in a hard place and is faced with making an ethical decision. He must create a monster for the greater good of saving the people from the monster going on a depressed rage, even though he understands how much it will destroy his overall mental and physical state. This is eerily similar to what we must face on a daily basis, as we must often times make decisions regardless of the impact it has on…

The recounting of Victor's childhood coalesce the reader to Victor, conveying his affection for his family. "No human being could have passed a happier childhood than myself...it was the secrets if heaven and earth that I desired to learn"(23). This close rapport rationalizes his intense abhorrence for the monster. There is a reciprocated need for support and care between Victor and his family. At the most abject times, nothing "could have given [him] greater pleasure than the arrival of [his] father"(165), indicating his need for support from his father. Victor's care for his family has an ever-lasting role in the novel. This is what drives him towards destroying his creation. Finally, upon hearing of the death of William, and subsequent framing of Justine, "[he] was seized by remorse and the sense of guilt, which hurried [him] away to a hell of intense tortures such as no language can describe"(74). It was this care for his family, which led him to realize the need for his acknowledgement of the presence of his creation, and bring an end to its being.…

The Glass Menagerie is a play of a family who is incredibly unstable. The play is about many other things, however the childlike minds of the main characters are a main point of the film. Each character of the film is caught within their own fantasy. Their inability to stay in reality hurts each character differently. Restoration is not actually attained in this film, however there was a desire from the mother, Amanda, for restoration. This movie is not a good depiction of restoration because no restoration actually takes place. A simple definition of restoration is putting things back to the way they were. Laura has always been aloof and crippled, and Tom never seemed to be interested in the reality in front of him so there is nothing to put back. Amanda is however trying to recreate her youth through the many reminiscing’s of her past the forcing of Laura to get gentlemen callers, and the nagging of Tom to stay home are Amanda’s way of trying to seek restoration. Although incredibly flawed, Amanda does try her best for the people she loves, Tom and Laura. Her feeble attempts at restoration only show that care that she has for her family even though her the way she shows it is flawed.…
