While attempting to break into an all ready dominate commerce, Breeder’s Own Pet foods will have to unequivocally convince their target audience that its product is more organic and better for your pet (s) than the dog foods that have dictated this commerce for years. The mix marketing-strategy that Breeder’s Own Pet Foods must use should be cleaver enough to augment the appeal of frozen dog food to new pet owners and lure faithful patrons away from the three traditional deliveries; nevertheless, priced efficiently enough to target any tier of our social class structure (Kerin & Peterson, 2013).…

Breeder’s Own Pet Food, Inc. is currently missing out on potential revenues from retail sales because they have not entered that market. Sales of dog food will total about $14 billion in 2011 at manufactures’ prices. There is a huge market and growth opportunity that they are missing out on. They need to make the public aware of the Breeder’s Mix brand name, what the packaging looks like, and the fact that Breeder’s Mix is a high-quality dog food. As well as direct dog owners to shop for dog food in the frozen-food section of supermarkets. They will have to overcome some key challenges such as overcoming potential objections to frozen dog food, lack of appeal of frozen food, pricing, and introducing a new food to a new market for their company.…

Breeder’s Own Pet Foods, Inc. Case AnalysisEtienne MepriseBellevue UniversityMBA652: Marketing StrategyDr. Doug Brown12/3/2013Breeder’s Own Pet Foods, Inc. Case AnalysisCase RecapBreeder’s Own Pet Foods, Inc. sees a growth opportunity in the retail dog food market for its nutritionally balanced, high quality dog food brand Breeder’s Mix, which has been traditionally sold to the show dog kennel market. The dog food consists of 85% fresh meat and 15% high quality fortified cereal with no additives or preservatives (Kerin and Peterson, 2013). One of the challenges for Breeder’s Own is breaking into an already saturated market. However, based on recent interest from dog food owners in organic, all natural, preservative free dog foods, Breeder’s Own can capitalize on this market share with their product, Breeder’s Mix. Initially, Breeder’s Mix would be marketed in the Boston, Massachusetts’s area since this area is representative of national averages for pet ownership and expenditures for pet products. Breeder Mix would be distributed to supermarkets since 36% of all dog foods sales come from supermarkets (Kerin and Peterson, 2013). Problem IdentificationTraditionally, dog food is produced as dry, canned, or treats. Breeder’s Mix is a nutritionally balanced frozen dog food. Since the food must be located in the frozen section of supermarkets, one marketing strategy will be to educate dog owners to shop for dog food in a non-traditional location. A second challenge will be to convince the target audience that Breeder’s Mix is a better and healthier product for their pet than the traditional dry or canned food. Since Breeder’s Own Pet Foods is a relative unknown name in the retail dog food market, it does not have brand equity, meaning it is not recognizable or well known for having superior quality. Lack of brand equity presents an additional challenge of convincing a target audience to purchase a new product. Currently, the competition consists…

Menu Foods was the largest maker of wet cat and dog food in North America, and the company was identified as a supermarket, pet product retailer or wholesaler. In 2007, Menu Foods was part of a recall of up to 100 brands and 60 million cans of pet food, which was the largest pet food recall in history. On March 15th. 2007, the FDA, the Food and Drug Administration, initiated the pet food recall. But not until April did the FDA announce that it was an ingredient, wheat gluten imported from China that contained the melamine which led to a kidney failure. This contaminated food caused 100 pets to die by the end of March and caused nearly 500 kidney failures. Menu Foods’ crisis communication was ineffective in three ways: first, Menu Foods did not institute a product recall until March 16, 2007, 24 hours after the FDA initiated it, which demonstrated that Menu Foods lacked a quick response to the crisis; second, its CEO, Paul Henderson, lacked clarity in answering questions during the investigation, which demonstrated that Menu Foods lacked transparency; third, Menu Foods did not apologize to the public, which demonstrated a lack of concern and sympathy for the victims of the crisis.…

    A Marketing Report for Iams

    • 2535 Words
    • 11 Pages

The Iams Company manufactures premium cat and dog food that is distributed in over 70 countries worldwide. The company was founded in 1946 by Paul Iams, an animal nutritionist, who developed the world’s first animal-based protein, dry dog food. He later went on to develop a new dog food, named Eukanuba. The company was sold to Proctor and Gamble (P&G) in September 1999. Since then ‘‘Iams has grown its share of the U.S. pet food market from 8.7 percent in 1999 to 13.7 percent in late 2002 and Iams is now one of P&G 's billion-dollar brands with 13 quarters of consecutive growth.’’ (Cincinnati bizjournals, 2009). Iams was initially a purely business to business company as the food was only distributed to veterinarians, animal breeders, and specialty pet stores. However, more recently due to demand, P&G 's marketing strategy has took Iams products from pet specialty shops to the main grocery stores both in the UK and the US but grocery stores still refrain from offering the full Iams product choice as the food is still predominantly a niche product as it is higher priced than most mainstream pet foods because of its quality and health and nutritional differentiation. The majority of the Iams range remains through veterinarians and animal breeders. Eukanuba continues to be sold to only veterinarians, animal breeders and pet speciality stores ‘‘although some industry watchers think it 's only a matter of time before Eukanuba can be found alongside Iams in grocery isles.’’ ‘‘P&G officials said their own research shows that 70 percent of U.S. pet-food buyers never shop for it in specialty stores’’ (Enquirer, 1995) making it possible that Iams and Eukanuba could potentially move away from the niche market and fully into the consumer mass market in the future.…

The animal vaccines market studied is segmented by products, animal diseases, and technologies that are involved in developing vaccines for veterinary administration. The global animal vaccines market, by products, is further segmented into seven segments, such as companion animal vaccines, livestock, poultry, porcine, equine, aquaculture, and other animal vaccines. The livestock vaccines market is further sub-segmented into bovine vaccines and small ruminant vaccines, whereas the companion animal vaccines market is further classified into canine vaccines and feline vaccines. The livestock vaccines segment dominates the market with close to 37% share followed by porcine and poultry. The large share of these segments is attributed to their major use of animals related to the food industry (meat, chicken, eggs, and dairy products), which are considered as healthy sources of protein. However, the aquaculture and companion vaccine segments will witness a healthy growth rate in the near future.…
