Glided Age Between 1870 And 1900
The "Glided Age" took place between 1870 and 1900 in the United States. This time period occurred and characterized by many things such as economic growth, industrial growth, immigration. When looking at this period of time the thing that jumps put and most memorable to most people is the extreme amount of immigration from the people. In this period of time society then saw a rapid economic and industrial growth that was solely driven by technical advances in manufacturing and as well as transportation, which then added to personal wealth expanding.
During the Glided Age in this era there was rapid economic growth. The economic growth came from both the West and the North. The wages that the workers got in America were much heftier than the …show more content…
Although the quickly emerging middle class started to find ways to get out of the workplace and find more leisure time to themselves which kind of got things moving. This changed by the end of the 19th century. It started by when in 1871 the Bank Holiday Act gave those workers some paid holidays each year where they could kick back and relax. This didn't mean everyone had off for these holidays even for most, they had no days off. Workers started to get Saturdays off then half days and eventually it would be enough to bulk up that "leisure time" for these workers. Soon enough sports started to become very organized and then eager to spend their open time and even their money outside of the workplace the middle class looked towards sports, whether it was as spectators or …show more content…
Along with that they could go fishing or enjoy the weather. Many outdoor activities were still there and very popular too as people attended parades and county fairs, they could also take place in competitions, and rides. When it came to how this affected the different classes and ethnic groups, it involved some urbanization and the leisure time was there for everyone, so everyone wanted to enjoy the activities at hand and take advantage of the time they had away from the office. When talking about the classes the wealthier would enjoy the better seats at the ballpark or the more pricier tickets, but overall it didn't cause crazy differences between the classes. This time period was a big change in society because it changed the entire way of life. People weren't just stuck in their workplace without any days off. Finally, when the changes started to happen, society developed, and the entertainment was there for the people to enjoy and still to these day it is a focus point in society and how there are billions of attractions in the world that people can enjoy on their free
