Glencore Canada Corporation is one of the world’s largest global diversified natural resource companies and a major producer as well as trader of more than 90 commodities. The company was founded in 1947 in Toronto, named as Marc Rich+Co AG, initially it focused on the physical market of ferrous, non-ferrous metals, minerals and crude oil. After 16 years of market growth, it successfully acquired a stake in the global resource giant, Glencore Xstrata and get renamed. The mother company is currently a public company, which operates in Australia, South Africa, Africa, North America, South America, Spain and Norway. Carbon disulphide is a colorless, flammable, poisonous liquid. It is used as a solvent for various organic compounds and as a raw material for regenerating cellulose. Carbon disulphide possesses high toxicity with pronounced central nervous system, hematologic and dermatologic effects. Exposure to carbon disulphide can cause significant changes in breathing and chest pains, nausea, vomiting, headache and blurred visions. (Chemicals in the environment: carbon disulphide, 1994) Carbon disulphide can add concerns to environment by creating photochemical smog when it reacts with volatile organic substance in air. “Particular Matter is a complex mixture of extremely small particles and liquid droplets.” “The size of particles is directly linked to their potential for causing health problems.”(Health, n.d., para.1) A variety of problems including irregular heartbeat, decreased lung function, nonfatal heart attack and aggravated asthma have been linked to PM exposure. PM also harms the environment by creating haze, depleting soil nutrients and changing the nutrient balance of costal waters. Volatile organic compound have harmful effects on environment when they chemically interact with oxides of nitrogen and sunlight to form ground-level ozone.
