Giving Blood
According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood and over 40,000 blood donations are needed every day.
Giving blood helps others
Giving blood takes only about an hour of your time once every six weeks and can save up to 3 lives per donation.
You get FREE stuff!
When you give blood there is always an incentive. Whether it be a t-shirt, a pair of movie tickets, or a chance to win something big (like a car). Plus, they feed you!
Not only does giving blood help others, and get you free stuff, but it's actually beneficial to your body!
Giving blood does a number of things for your body. It helps your iron levels stay balanced by reducing your body stores and allowing your body to replenish in the weeks to follow, which is thought to help reduce the risk of cancer. It helps your blood flow better. In fact, the American Journal of Epidemiology found that donors are 88% less likely to suffer from a heart attack or stroke. And ladies... it burns calories! Giving one pint of blood burns 650 calories. Plus, you get a free mini checkup and a free blood analysis which checks for 13 deadly diseases including HIV, Hepatitis, and West Nile!
