Girl With A Pearl Earring
After watching the film Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003), I was curious about the painting that this film was inspired. Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer is one of my favorite works of art because it arouses a lot of emotions in me: curious, amazed, and obsessed. Her eye contact and her lips are about to say something. It draws me in her gaze to guess what she wants to say. Because of its huge impression on me, I decide to choose this artwork as the topic for my Photo Self Portrait Paper. Based on the signature on the painting “IVMeer”, Girl with a Pearl Earring was estimated to be created in 1665 by Johannes Vermeer, a Dutch painter. Its original name was Girl with a Turban. Girl with a Pearl Earring can do it. The girl draws us in her gaze, her lips is about to say something. It requires the devotion of the artist. Vermeer has to put all his heart in the work. I remember Renae Lucas-Hall once said: “What comes from the heart will go to the heart”. An artwork is not just an emotionless picture created by colors, but it has to contain the messages of the artist. It transmits the painter’s emotions. The painters use artworks as a tool to explicit their beliefs, their hopes, their perspectives on life. Girl with a Pearl Earring shows that to have a brilliant painting, the painter not only has to have talented skills in drawing but also be well-served in optics, mathematics, and a great sense of observation. It is not exaggerated to honor Vermeer with fine names as “optical expert”, or “light witch”. Looking at this painting, we see that the light in Vermeer's paintings is a kind of light that is vivid, precise and precise at every angle. It has been more than three centuries since the time Girl with a Pearl Earring was created. But it never loses its attractiveness in every art lovers. Girl with a Pearl Earring deserves to be one of the most successful paintings in Renaissance

    The focus of this paper will be “Ingenue” by Richard Judson Zolan and “The Gold Dress” by Bill Brauer. The focal point of both paintings is a beautiful woman and this is where the similarities stop.     At the El Paso Museum of Art I saw many beautiful and wonderful paintings and sculptures but the “The Portrait” was the sculpture that caught my attention the most. “The Portrait” was sculpted by Frances Bagley an American artist born on April 7, 1946 in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Frances Bagley lives and works in Dallas, Texas. “The Portrait” was created in 1997 and it is made out of stainless steel and marble. The sculpture has shape and contour which is the shape of a woman like in a night gown. The sculpture has mass. It also has texture because in the stainless steel you can see that is shine and smooth and the marble is not finish so you can see that is rough. It has color because even if the marble is rough it has different colors. It has proportion and scale in the part of the body from top to bottom as well it does have the proper scale to simulate a woman sitting down. “The Portrait” has design, unity, and aesthetic because the whole piece is appealing to eye since it resembles the shape of a woman with the different pieces of rough marble place inside of the stainless structure and even if the materials does not have a glamorous touch the sculpture does captivate the viewers attention because of its has beauty.
