Ghosts Story: An Analysis Of The Ghost Story
Analysis of the “Ghost Story” The ghost story gave me mixed feelings on how to take it from a historian point of view. The story was Mr. Fleetwood’s own perception of what happened and how he remembered it at that moment. I will cover the rationality of trusting the content, the justification of it being historically true, and if the metaphysical evidence of ghost must be true for the story to be historically true. The content of the ghost story can be rationally trusted to have happened to a point, while considering possible causes for some of the events. Since the story was told from one person’s memory of the event it brings up the question of what may have been forgotten or misremembered. One thing to consider is the primary source and whether it can be trusted. The primary source was a well-educated individual with a background in teaching, which adds credibility to his words. We also have to consider the background given during the story, for one thing he was a high school student at the time. That adds the factor of time to the equation, it had been years since it happened when the story was recalled. Another factor is the primary source stated, him and friends were not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but excitement and fear.

The metaphysical evidence would only add to the verification that the ghost story is indeed true, but it is not required for the encounter to be historically true. This is mostly one reason is that it was never explicitly said ghost caused the events. For all that any of us know the knocking could have been caused by animals, wind, or other circumstances, also Mr. Fleetwood being “pushed” off the porch could of just been him losing his balance, falling because surprise or any other cause.
