Getting Invovled in Politics
I researched three different sources on what was the best way to get involved in politics. I did deeper research on two clubs that are used throughout the nation, Boys and Girls State, and The Young Republican or Young Democrat Club. Each club is slightly different, but they are the most effective way that I found to get involved on a higher level. If you don’t want to be part of one of these clubs or even a higher level of politics, but are still interested in politics volunteer for local groups or go to the town council meetings. There is always something to do at every level.
The first club I researched was The Young Democrat or Republican Club. The club contains juniors and seniors that get together to sort out issues we face in today’s society. A group can be held in every county, but I have never heard of a local club. Their purpose is to promote awareness of political issues, candidate views, and just to be an involved and knowledgeable citizen. Each member has roles, duties, and responsibilities that they must fulfill. As members they must inform other students of beliefs the party has and why they have them, make major issues known, instill love of the country, desire to make a difference, and stress the importance of voting. Within each group of young democrats or republicans there is voting for president, vice president, secretary, and campaign manager.
The co-chairperson for the Rockland County Young Republican Club has talked a little about the club they have; here are some of the things she has to say, “In recent times the membership and participation of the Young republican Club has dwindled to the point where the club is virtually defunct.” The politics of the Republican Party were devoid of substance especially in regards to politics that impact the younger generations. “We have a vibrant and active group of skilled and intelligent young people, ranging from high school students to young professionals in the community.” The co-chairperson

Defer your participation in student government until at least your sophomore year. As a freshman, you would not really know how things work, and no one is going to listen to you anyway. When a Canadian is asked to name their local Member of Parliament, we all can’t help but laugh at the people who literally don’t know anything about our political system. Unfortunately, the ignorance of politics has been divided into many groups of Canadians, which demonstrates why some people are not informed or interested in discussing political matters. Elisabeth Gidengil, writer of Citizens, explicitly repeats in her novel that Age, Material circumstances, education and gender gaps are factors of being politically engaged (Gidengil 173). Without a doubt, not everyone has those same components to become an active citizen and it’s unfortunate that some choose not to get politically involved. Consequently, the absence of political knowledge has a big effect on Canada because with more uninformed citizens, leads to more societal problems. In this paper, I argue the success of Canada’s democracy is heavily dependent on politically engaged citizens and by having more Canadians convey their concerns, the authorities can realize what political issues to extricate. The result of increasing civic engagement is both a sophisticated…

My involvement in Junior Optimist Club has sparked my passion for youth opportunities. When founding the club, the intentions of my peers and I were to create an organization lead by students that provided activities and opportunities for youth in the community. From reading to first graders to organizing popcorn fundraisers at the middle school, my service has not only given children a positive teen role model, but also forged a bond between these young minds and myself. My newfound interest…

The countless clubs I joined included: FFA, Key Club, Honor Society, and SADD. I began to really enjoy going to these club activities and I started to become more and more involved. Instead of being the shy girl that I was in middle school, I started to transform and become more and more outgoing over time. Eventually, I had the courage to try and become an officer for my FFA chapter. My sophomore year I became our chapter's reporter, and as time went on I…

    The Apathy of Generation X

For the past 25 years it has been wondered why the young people of America have shared the same apathetic attitude towards politics as the older generation of Americans. Indeed, the issues concerning young voters are just as important as those concerning older voters. Why the newest voters choose to abstain their right has long been studied. While it has been proven that the vote of young people can make or a break an election, most candidates are reluctant to relate themselves to young people. When that Tuesday in November comes, young people choose not be heard, assuring themselves future neglect by the part of elected officials.…

My family has always been active in the Democratic Party, and I want to help continue that legacy. Both my grandfather and great grandfather were significant members of unions up in Pennsylvania, and my aunts and uncles have volunteered for the Democratic Party on multiple occasions. I have been instilled in my belief and faith in the party, and I want to play a helpful part in helping it during a crucial election. Also, I will miss the deadline for voting in the presidential election by two weeks, but I still want to be able to contribute to the party. My goal is to feel like I can make a change in the election at least locally because I cannot do so this presidential election with my vote. Finally, I feel deeply connected with the Democratic…

Jane Goodall once stated, along these lines, that each person makes a difference but it’s up to that person what type of difference they want to make. Young people these days are put into the category that they cannot make a difference, they are belittled and made out to be careless. In turn these young people start to believe that they can’t make a difference therefore they don’t bother trying. This affect is seen in youth in their involvement in politics, the voting rate in Canada for youth voters has been declining for years according to Elections Canada , young adults therefore don’t appear all that interested in politics.…

Voting is the civic duty of every American citizen that is eligible to vote. However, there was a low young voter turnout in favor of Obama in recent elections. According to the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement, the young voter turnout decreased by two percent from 51 percent in the 2008 elections to 49 percent in the 2012 elections. There could be three plausible causes for this political phenomenon: apathy, lack of marriage, and voting restrictions.…

Professor Ricchiuto, J., (August 13, 2011) lecture during residency on Executive Communication on topic Political Savvy in Organization was an eye opener for me. One of the most powerful but often overlooked skills that a Leader needs is Political Competence. Whether to sustain in an Organization or to successfully get things done, a good leader must understand what others have in their minds, whom to approach and how to influence and build consensus from others. The know-how of what-to-say, what-not-to-say and how to execute also matters. It is a skill that requires high social awareness, capacity to connect and convince people.…
