George Orwell 1984 Power Corruption
Power is something nobody should mess with, power can corrupt. I had friends that would play with a stick. The stick was the only way to win the game, so when we were playing one kid slapped the other in order to obtain the stick, and once he had it he chased the rest of the kids with the intent to harm them, the boy had a taste of power that day and tried to make it worthwhile. The little boy’s intentions were bad just as big brother’s in the novel 1984 by George Orwell. Winston is your everyday office worker working for the dictator Big Brother. Winston, like others disagree with Big Brother’s plans. Winston finds his companion and lover julia and together try to spread the word of Big Brothers intentions. A theme that can be derived from the novel is power can and will corrupt.
Power can and will corrupt is shown throughout the book. In the novel Big Brother has posters littering the streets as such case at the beginning of the book with posters saying things like “BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU.” Big brother is a dictator and like …show more content…
They say this looking at the book and seeing big brother being the only corrupt official. This makes sense on their perspective because my claim is power can corrupt but in the story there's only one corrupt man. The only problem with this is that he isn’t the only one. Sure Big Brother is the only corrupt person alive, but there have been more before Big Brother, like the rule of the corrupt men and even a woman in the government, meaning that the story has more examples of corrupt leaders than just big brother. And they were there before Big Brother and his rule. Although you can make a strong argument with what is given in the text my claim would prove to be more generous when it comes to evidence and ways to explain it.So the claim power can corrupt still stands with the opposing claim power is used effectively being just not as
