Generic vs Exceptional Decision Making
Introduction: Lussier & Achua (2004) insisted that leadership was a procedure that not only influenced employees, but leaders as well, to accomplish the goals of the organization through change. Lussier in his book he explained about various types of leadership styles such as Transformational, Transactional, laissez-faire and charismatic. Lussier clearly explains the differences between all the leadership styles. Depending on the situation a leader has to act in different styles to complete the tasks. Drucker in his book states that “Leadership is the lifting of a man’s vision to higher sights, the raising of a man’s performance to a higher standard, the building of a man’s personality beyond its normal limitations.” He also explains about the five step decision process for decision making. Similarities: The decision making elements in both the Lussier/Achua’s and the Drucker’s are closely related. Drucker in his books describes that an effective leader is the person who understands the problem and takes an effective decision to solve the problem. Lussier in his book explains about the transformational leader as a leader who understands the situation and uses his skills to inspire people and solves the problem. These two types are almost closely related.

Generic Vs Exceptional Issues: According to Drucker there are two types of decision makings, they are generic and Exceptional. Generic decisions are the day to day regular decisions where as the Exceptional are the unexceptional situations such as natural disasters or unexpected occasions. First case is the regular one so it will be easy to take decisions when compared to the second case. In the second case leader has to take a decision effectively and immediately instead of looking for rules and regulations. As described above a leader has to take effective and
