Sometimes, when we here gender identification and gender roles, we may think that they are the same thing. Yes, they may seem to be similar in some ways, but they are definitely different. Gender identity is how you feel about your gender and how you express it towards others. Gender roles are how people act in order to express whatever gender they may be. Gender identification and gender roles are very important because it allows you to know who you really are and what you are actually capable of. Even twins have their own way of doing things and thinking differently from the other. Now, your gender is basically society’s way of putting things. Your gender is whether or not you are a boy or a girl, male or female, man or woman. Whichever one you may be, that is considered to be your gender. You gender identity is how we feel about ourselves and our gender. It is also about how we express our gender and our gender roles. Ways that we can express our gender identity is by our clothing, personal appearance, and also by the way that we behave ourselves. Others factors that can determine gender identity are biological factors like having a penis or a vagina. Social and environmental factors can also determine gender identity because if you are taught about your gender by your parents or even teachers like the traits a girl or a boy should have, then they will grow up to know their gender. Yes, it is true that there are people are more masculine or more feminine than others, but we should not have to label them that way. Just because a man may wash dishes or even mop their homes that does not make them less than a man. A woman who may drive trucks or work for some kind of Oil Company that does not mean that she is less than a woman either. People do think about masculine and feminine being the opposite of one’s continuum, but like I mentioned before doing something that would be out of the ordinary for a man or a woman to do, does not make that person any less that what he or she is. There are even people who look masculine and they are women and vice versa. Some women might have men traits and some men might have women traits.
