    Sign of the Beaver

For my Newberry Honor book I read The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare. The genre was historical fiction and Matt, the main character, was a very brave, strong, kindhearted 12 year old boy who had brown hair and was average height. What I admire about matt is that he is a brave kid who was very willing to sacrifice himself to protect the cabin for his family. The story is about a family who lives in Quincy, Massachusetts when one blistering cold winter in 1768, they decide to move to Maine. In the spring Matt and his father went to an area of land that he bought and cleared it out from all the trees. They built a log cabin in a forest. His father would go back to Quincy to get the rest of his family and matt would stay by himself to protect the cabin. He has heard stories about their being Indians in this part of Maine and he has been taught to be very polite to them. His dad told him he wouldn’t come across one if he didn’t bother them. He one day wanted honey from a bee hive that he had seen a couple days back, so he went and was chased by a bunch of bees. He was stung many times but finally tripped on a root and was thrown into a small lake. He was rescued by the feared Indians, who then took him to his cabin and gave him medicine (for his foot he had hurt when he tripped) and new shoes. The next day the Indians came back to matt’s cabin and checked his leg. They said it was sprained. He later in the book found out that the Indians who had saved him were Attean and his grandfather Sankis. Matt made a deal with Sankis that if they taught his skills about the wild he would teach Attean better English. They agreed and Matt learned many skills while Attean learned…

Leopard geckos are one of the most popular reptile pets in captivity and they’re extremely easy to work with. The care requirements of the geckos are so minimalistic that any hobbyist can own around 10-20 or even more geckos and still have a lesser workload compared to an owner of a more common pet such as a cat or a dog. Leopard geckos do not take up a lot of space, they do not consume a lot of food, and they’re incredibly fast growers from babies up to maturity compared to most animals. The combination of these factors has led to them being ever popular in demand, with keepers ranging from the young to the old.…

    • 8 Pages

Lizards belong to the class Reptilian, Scientists have said that reptiles have been on earth for about 200 hundred million years. Lizards are the largest group of reptiles with more than 4300 species around the world. Lizards are found in sub-tropical and tropical regions of the world. Lizards come in different shapes and sizes. Most of the lizards are quite small have four legs and have a fragile tail that can regenerate when part of it is gone. They look similar to salamanders. Lizards are ectoderms meaning they cold blooded, meaning they depend on outside sources like the sun, to raise and maintain their body temperatures. Eating habits for lizards is very different, it depends on the species. Some lizards feed on iguanas which are insects, some eat rodents, and some eat both rodents and insects. Lizards use their teeth to scare predators off as protection. Very few lizards happen to be poisonous and use their venom as a defence. Other species of lizards rely on camouflage such as the chameleon that is able to change its colour according to its surroundings, as a defensive strategy. Females of most lizard species lay eggs and then are usually left to hatch on their own. The most well-known venomous lizards are the Gila monster and he Mexican Beaded Lizard. They are found in Mexico and south west of United States. These lizards are classified in the Family Helodermatidae which has one genus containing only these two species. Both of these lizards have been known as the only venomous lizards for a long time. But more recently discoveries have been made that there are more…
