Gaspar Antonio Chi was a Mayan nobleman that was born before the Spanish invasion of the Yucatan. Chi played an important role as an interpreter of Mayan language, customs, and also mediated relations between his people and the Spanish. Chi wrote of his understanding of the Spanish and their customs as well as the point of view of his fellow Maya.
