INTRODUCTION
I. Background of the Study: Students nowadays use gadgets to help increase their grades. But what if these gadgets even help them lower their grades? I conducted a study to find out if students who use gadgets more often have lower grades than those students who use gadgets less frequently. Gadgets have two effects to students: the positive effect and the negative effect. The positive effect is that it helps them with their studies by searching through the web, communicating, and entertainment. But if this entertainment goes too much, gadgets could cause a negative effect to students like sleeping late at night, not doing the assignments of projects and not focusing on lessons during class hours. But games aren’t just the only possible cause of low grades. It also includes texting, social networking, and chatting online. According to one study, 50 percent of people who sleep with their phones on wake up in the middle of the night and check their phones. However, experts say that such practices may cause sleep deprivation. Now new research shows that excessive reliance on electronic gadgets (like cell phones and laptops) can actually hurt your academic performance. A recent study by researchers at The Miriam Hospital’s Center for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine in Providence, RI, shows that the use of such devices to text, watch online videos and post statuses on Facebook is associated with lower grade point averages.
Almost all of the students own accounts at various social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr. These sites may cause a negative effect on students if used too much or used frequently. A new study says that students who are on Facebook while studying or doing

Because technology is so advance, and our kids were born into a technology craze it is recommended that as adults we do some research on the effects these gadgets can have on our kids in the long run. For example if we allow Ipads in the class to teach our kids how to write what exactly are they learning? Based on the presentation, students who use laptop would likely spend time multitasking and distracts other students from learning. It also states that people who multitasking can affect other students to be distracted and unfocused on the study or taking notes. Students who use laptop would likely type the same thing the teacher says and would likely take more note. Another reason why mobile phones should never be accepted in universities is the fact that their use has been known to deter the remembering of learned knowledge by the students. It has been recognized that some students have become addicted to the use of mobile phones to the extent that their rate of knowledge retention is too low because of minds that are preoccupied with social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. For example, the article “Should We Ban Cell Phones in the Classroom?” explains that cellphones distract students from what they should focus on (Mageau 2). Distraction cause the student to fall behind, which lead to cheating on test due to the lack of knowledge he/she was on his/her phone instead of paying attention in class. Even if the student is not caught cheating during an exam, the student would still be victim of distraction of the phone because they did not learn the material causing them to resort to cheating. The constant buzzing, ringing, and flair of light catches a student’s attention which leads to the engaging in the phone rather the teacher. Social disconnection also leads to a decrease in the success rate of a student’s school performance. In Collie’s article “Mobile Technology for the Classroom,” he explains that students who use cellphones in schools are socially disconnected from other peers and teachers (Collie 80). Research shows that students who misuse their cell phones in class struggle in academics. Cyberbullying also ties into a student’s academic success rate. Cellphone usage among teens in school can result in either an advancement in knowledge or drama caused by cyberbullying. For instance, in the article “Is it Safe to Allow Cellphones in School,” Kenneth Trump discuss that cyberbullying is more prevalent…

When it comes to the issue whether modern technology really benefits students' study, people's opinions differ from culture to culture, and person to person. Some insist that modern technology increases students' efficiency in learning, while others believe that their attention is actually distracted from studying by using modern technology to the contrary. On a personal level, I partially agree on the prior one, which contends that with the help of technology, students can learn more information and learn it more quickly.…
