INTRODUCTION
Organisations have a variety of goals. They usually direct energies and resources to achieve these goals. Management is needed whenever people work together in an organisation. The managerial function must be performed by anyone who manages organised efforts, whether it is a business, enterprise, religious organisations, military outfit or a social institution.

WHAT IS MANAGEMENT?

Management is the accomplishments of the results through the efforts of other people.
Management is the art of getting things done through and with the people in formally organised groups.
Management is the process of planning, organising, actuating and controlling to determine and accomplish the objectives by the use of people and resources.

FUNCTIONS OF MANAGEMENT
Planning:
Planning is the process of making decisions about future. It is the process of determining enterprise objectives and selecting future courses of action. Planning provides direction to enterprise activities. It helps managers cope with change. Planning is the fundamental function of management and all other functions are influenced by the planning process.
Organising:
Organising is concerned with the arrangement of an organisation’s resources-people, materials, technologyand finance in order to achieve enterprise objectives. It involves about decision about division of work, allocation of authority and responsibility and the coordination of tasks.
Staffing:
It is the function of employing suitable persons for the enterprise. It may be defined as an activity where people are recruited, selected, trained, developed, motivated, and compensated for manning various positions. It has four elements: recruitment, selection, training, compensation
