Published in February 1999, it revealed the stark fact that roughly one in five adults – perhaps as many as seven million people – were functionally illiterate or innumerate. For many years there had been limited funding and limited availability of basic skills training for the 16+ area of the lifelong sector; training and skill enhancement had been mostly office based [audio typing, short hand, word processing etc.] and mostly funded by the private individual. – ‘as a national priority, improvements in literacy and numeracy never reached the front of the policy queue.’ [Moser Report – Chairman’s…

Department of Health and Human Services. 2013). The Medicaid Waiver Program has several core services: Case management, homemaker, home health aide, personal care, adult day care, rehabilitation, and respite care, (Hooyman, N.R., Kiyak, H.A. 739). Medicaid can cover long-term services provided by in-home aides three different ways: Under the Mandatory Home Health State Plan Benefit, the Personal Care Services Optional State Plan Benefit, and Home and Community Based Waiver Program. Only a handful of states finance a small amount of long-term home attendant care under the Home Health Benefit. Most states offer personal assistance services through the Personal Care Services Optional State Plan Benefit, (U.S. Department HHS. 2013). Most if not all are required to provide personal care services through state licensed home care agencies and many states allow the consumer to hire the PCA. For the consumer there is the freedom of choice built into the Medicaid program for home health care but are only extended to qualified providers of in-home care and leaves it up to each state to spell out the…

Occupational scientists study the “phenomenological aspects of occupation through qualitative research”. Occupational scientists focus on human occupation and study humans as occupational beings. This means that there is not one direct way to study occupations but rather many ways in studying occupations. This involves studying the different aspects of occupations by asking individuals about their experiences when accomplishing tasks. These different aspects include the subjective individual experiences, meanings behind participating in occupations, and bodily experiences when engaging in occupations. It is important to study these qualitative aspects along with the study of observable quantitative aspects because they go hand-in-hand with…

    Natural Competence Essay

Natural competence is regulated by competence stimulating peptides, CSPs. Natural competence is the ability for cells to take up naked DNA, or DNA that is not a part of a living cell anymore. Naked, extracellular DNA can be found in the matrix due to two reasons, cells secreting it or cell death/lysis. CSPs act as quorum sensing molecules and tell the cells when there is a large population of cells in the surrounding area. Thus CSPs have the ability to control the expression of certain proteins.…

Domestic violence has not always been considered a defilement of the rule. Though mankind have beaten, ill-treated and victimized their spouses or intimate companions for a elongated time, traditionally, spouse or companion mistreatment has been regarded as a "customary" part of matrimony or intimate interactions. First towards the end of the twentieth century, the 1970’s, has domestic violence been demarcated a crime, vindicating intervention by the criminal justice system. This essay will discuss the services provided by the crisis intervention human service delivery system, the general characteristics and skills needed to effectively deliver mental health and crisis intervention services and how the characteristics, skills, and actions needed by an agent of the government differ from those skills needed by social workers or practitioners in mental health.…

Watson (2004) suggests a three-tiered hierarchy of goals for developing the quantitative literacy skills. These tiers suggest increasing movement away from pure mathematical skills into context and then into critical thinking (Watson, 2004). By designing a set of questions for each article according to the hierarchy it led participants to think using…

This was a good clarifying question to ask, but perhaps should have been used later on in the consultation when trying to find out more specific details. This would have been a good time to acknowledge the amount of pain the patient was in and recognise the inconvenience for her as she still had to go to work even though she was in significant pain. After this, I could have maybe asked what kind of pain it was? Referring to dull, sharp etc but not mentioning the types, letting her describe it herself and if she didn’t understand asking her to explain what the pain feels like.…

    Survival Skills

There are many skills that would be needed to survive on an uninhabited island. The difficulty of surviving would be lessened if a person had the knowledge in hunting, building shelters, and first aid. Hunting is important because this skill will keep people from starvation. Knowing the difference between what animals and plants are a good food source and which animals and plants can harm a persons’ body can save or kill a person. Being able to build a sturdy shelter is important, whether it is raining or extremely hot. Gathering sticks, thick plants, tree branches, and any type of wood is an easy job, however figuring out how to keep it in place can get tricky. Being stranded on an uninhabited island is bound to some sort of injury. Knowing first aid skills can benefit any injury a person can be faced with, from a simple scrap to a broken bone. An island that a person is stranded on seems unlivable, but knowing these simple skills; hunting, building shelter, and first aid, will help an uninhabited situation. This was a good paper it was on survival skills. I hope you enjoy it. I learned all of these survival skills on my own when I was at camp we were taught all of these skills even how to build a tent. I am just the coolest person ever that is why I know how to survive on my own.…
