Friday Night Lights Analysis
The hit Netflix show that took everyone by storm over the years is, Friday Night Lights. The show is centered on a town in Texas where a local high school football team has captured the whole town in the midst of the playoff season. The Texas high school team star football team is called the Panthers; the show opens with a week before a huge game against a more than capable opponent. One of the first characters the viewers see is Tim Riggins, a football player that loves his booze a little too much when he shows up to practice still drunk, and that was not the first time. As the show progresses, Riggins is very rarely seen without a drink, which makes it clear, that he is an alcoholic. The objective of the study done in the journal article was to “estimate the incidence of concussion and time to recovery after concussion in collegiate football players” (Guskiewicz, K. M., McCrea, M., Marshall, S. W., Cantu, R. C., Randolph, C., Barr, W., Onate, J. A. and Kelly, J. P. 2013). The participants were 2,905 colligate football players from various different colleges whom the researchers had been following since 1999, 2000, and 2001 when they did their concussion baseline testing. So, the researchers were looking at “players injured with a concussion were monitored until their concussion symptoms resolved and were followed up for repeat concussions until [the players completed their collegiate football careers or until 2001]” (Guskiewicz et al.).
