Friar Lawrence: Good Or Bad?
The first time we meet Friar Lawrence, he is talking about very deep ideas. He starts by talking about basic thoughts such as night becoming day and gathering herbs for medicine; however, as he continues talking, he says that everything on earth, man and plant, have two opposite sides: good and evil. He also says that too much of something good can become something awful. Likewise, something thought to be bad if applied in a useful way can become something of value.
I agree with Friar Lawrence. There are many examples in my life that support his idea that good things can become bad. For example, water is necessary for survival, but people can drown in water and they can die from consuming too much. Food is similar. All foods have some value, but if someone only eats one thing, then that food will lose its goodness. …show more content…
These examples are harder to find. Friar Lawrence used the example of a plant. He said that if someone smells the plant they will feel good all over, but if they bite into it, they will die. His plant example reminds me of vanilla. Vanilla smells really good, but tastes very bitter.
I believe, like Friar Lawrence, that all things have good and evil in them. I also think that supposedly well-intended ideas can become a disaster. These ideas are made clear through my life and Friar Lawrence's examples. In fact, even people have some likeable qualities and some dislikeable traits.
