Salut Kiera!

Les jeunes aiment les groupes: "Story Of The Year", "Le Veronicas" et "Nickelback".

J'adore l'Australie!

Bisous,

Beth

The only time Australia has come under direct attack from another country, was when Japan bombed Darwin and sunk a number of ships in Sydney, during World War 2. The question then has to be asked, why Australia has been involved in so many conflicts. A number of recent conflicts in this century come to mind, they include, The Boer War, World War One, World War Two and The Vietnam War. By far the conflict that drew the most outrage from Australian citizens was the Vietnam War. Australia has been drawn into these conflicts through a number of treaties and alliances made with other countries. Often it is not the conflicts that have drawn most outrage from Australian citizens, rather the insistence of other countries, for Australia to accept large numbers of post-war refugees.…

The early 17th century saw the birth of New France as claimed by Samuel de Champlain. The father of New France claimed the land in 1608 by establishing the French territory of Quebec. New France was an integral part of history because their rapid colonization lead to exponential growth for the country. The actions France took towards colonizing and improving claiming New France is what eventually gave way to the birth of Canada. Immigrants who left their lives to explore the New World are integral elements of the Empire’s success. What those immigrants did for a living, their lifestyles, and their relationships with the Natives of North America were all significant aspects of the development and more or less creation of a new colony.…

The St. Catharines Chamber Music Society was held at the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre of Brock University in Saint Catharines at 7:30 p.m., on Friday, 18th January, 2013. The four performers mostly showing on the stage, Xiaoling Li, Andrée Simard, Gordon Cleland, Karin Di Bella are violinist, violist, violoncellist, pianist respectively. Then, the soprano Charlotte Knight joined the performance to present us a wonderful and colorful music. The stage in the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre is surrounded by cambered audience seats with five parts separated by four aisles. At the center of the stage, a piano for the concert stands there quietly. When spotlight falls on the piano, the grace of classical music arises in the audience’s hearts, which makes them relaxed and expectant.…

The purpose of this essay was to inform and explain to individuals all of the several ways for people to enjoy music as well as to explicate that the readers should strive for a more active type of listening. It showed the impact music can have on the lives of people. Aaron Copland said that even “One note is enough to change the atmosphere of the room” (599). This essay was written for just about everybody, with hearing of course, because most everyone listens to music. Even for the few that do not listen to music often, this could perhaps persuade them to listen to music . This was presented in a creative essay type format. The different types of music and conclusion of this essay are examples of evidence to support the purpose. Copland mentioned “We all listen to music on three separate planes… (1) the sensuous plane, (2) the expressive plane, (3) the sheerly musical plane” (599). Copland also says that the reader should strive for a more active kind of listening regardless of what type of music you listen to (603). However, the author also mentioned that many people who would normally consider themselves qualified music lovers abuse the first plane when listening. This author effectively uses these appeals very effectively with logic. This author used a more objective type of language in his essay. The evidence in this essay supports the claims through practices people experience while listening, writing, or performing music. The evidence covers the perspectives associated with the 3 planes, but nothing else. I felt this article was very well written. I enjoyed the essay, as I was engaged during it. Anyone who listens or performs music can very easily relate to this essay and become engaged into it. The organization of this essay also helps people to be absorbed by this essay. The language throughout this article is not too formal, but not terribly informal. It was the perfect median in which you could read through and easily relate to…

Holt first outlines the historical change in the economy of music and goes on to discuss the four components of the new economy of live music in connection with digital media. The first two elements discussed were live music as an economic driver and the categorical price change in concert ticket pricing. Public performances are largely marketing events and are emphasized as vital locations in finding, evaluating, and promoting popular music artists. This idea has directly impacted the new economy of music and for many artists they earn most of their money from these live events rather than recordings. Companies like AEG and Live Nation are the biggest concert promoters and they have created a monopoly, which exploits the consumer, as seen from the major increase of concert ticket prices since 1996. The third and fourth components are the new and renewed event genres and live experience in the digital information society. The arenas and festival locations development in ‘gentrification’ increased the interest to modern day audiences by broadening their appeal. The boom in media technologies had a huge impact on the economy of live music as it enhances communication. Digital media allows for flexible communication ‘in terms of the temporal and spatial dimensions’. While the atmosphere of live performances draw people in there is a limited form of communication physically. All four of these elements have largely influenced the new economy of live music and has been demonstrated from cultural and performance study…

The concert took two stages. The costumes of singers were different from each other. While someone singing the others were waiting on the right side of the stage. That made me confused because it seems like a choir but only one singing. We listened compilation of different songs that taken from different operas. Listening different stories from different talents was an outstanding experience. It was hard to believe that only a piano companied the singers because of the deepness of the sound. When I close my eyes it sound me like a little orchestra. Most of the singers were soprano; there were few tenor and baritone. Especially Nancy Freer amazed me so much. She singed one of my favorite one Vissi d'arte which is compesed by Giacomo Puccini. Whenever I listen it I feel flame. Also she singed Villanelle from Les Nuits d’ete, composed by Hector Berlioz. The most impressive thing about her voice was, it totally filled my ears and pleasure. Nancy was more experienced than the others although she is only 31. The other singers were younger than Nancy. I am not sure but maybe some of them would be student at collage. Before the end of the first stage a face that I am familiar with took the scene. He was T.J Schuhle, bass-baritone. I know him from the opera, “The Medium” He seems really interesting to me because his…
