French Christmas V. American Christmas
Christmas is celebrated differently around the world. I'm going to compare my Christmas holiday traditions to French holiday traditions.
The holiday tradition for christmas in my family starts on Christmas eve, since I have little brother and sisters we bake cookies for santa and set the milk out and we even put reindoor food out! (It's glitter and trail mix) When me and my siblings have finally fell asleep, my parents put out nthe gifts they don't wrap the ones from santa so it looks more realistic! Anyways, early in the morning we wake up and see the gifts from santa, then we open the ones from our parents. After our presents have been opened and the mess from all the wrapping paper and open boxes are cleaned up we go to the waffle house and chow down! Then we get together with our whole family and have christmas dinner and exchange presents. I love christmas with my family, not only because of the gifts but because we don't get together as much as we should!
French Christmas holidays are a little different than my holiday traditions. In france Christmas is a time for family and generosity, marked by family reunions, gifts and candy for the little kids, gifts for the poor, midnight mass, and le réveillon. The celebration of Christmas in FRance varies by region. Most provinces celebrate christmas on the 25th of December. In the Eastern and Northern parts of France the Christmas season begins on 6th of december, la fête de Saint Nicolas, and in some provinces la fête des Rois is one of the most importnant holidays of the Christmas season. Some examples of French Christmas traditions are that the French children put their shoes in front of the fireplace, in hopes that Père Noë' will fill them with gifts. Candy, fruit, nuts, and small toys will also be hung on the tree. In some regions there's also Père Fouettard, he gives spankings to bad children, kind of like our santa gives coal to the naughty
