Freaky Phenomena

A ghost is defined as an apparition of a dead person that is believed to appear or become manifest to the living, typically as a nebulous image. A CBS news poll discovered that 48% of people believed that ghosts existed and 45% believed they did not. These results show that Americans seem to be split between accepting and rejecting the phenomena. There are many different reasons for people’s beliefs like fearing the deceased, media providing pictures, stories and information that seem to be convincing to the audience, and an explanation as to why events happen in their lives. I hypothesize that the paranormal world does in fact exist, but a lack of proof and the right technology is causing the controversy between those who believe and those who do not. Therefore, I propose to conduct a new study with new technology to prove whether this unresolved phenomenon is fact or fiction.
Paranormal activity has been an ongoing debate for hundreds of years and as affected some people more than it has affected others. A slight creak of a door or an unexplained movement has caused many Americans to live in fear of what may or may not be visible to the naked eye. Several hypotheses have been made to explain why ghosts visit a certain place or person. Some specific explanations are that the ghost is trying to fulfill some kind of desire, they are angry with the person or someone is visiting the place where the ghost resides. Although these hypotheses may be valid, none of them have been proven true, but many people still believe they are some of the main causes of spirits returning to the human world. Many scientists explain that people create these hypotheses because they desire some kind of explanation and find comfort in having some answer to the things they feel or see.
