Franklin D. Roosevelt's Good Neighbor Policy
Franklin D. Roosevelt led America in a time of hardship through its greatest crisis so he therefore focused a lot on the state’s economy. Roosevelt came up with projects improve the life of the people such as the unemployment insurance and limits on work hours. He promised a New Deal and in his “First Hundred Days” as president he pushed numerous amounts of bills through Congress. He established National Security, The Wagner Act, the SEC, and the FDIC, which all still last to today. While president, he decreased the unemployment rate from 25% to 2% and developed the Good Neighbor Policy. Roosevelt proved to be a very good war-time leader and led the U.S. to its victory over Nazi, Germany, and its allies with the help of Britain and the Soviet

    Roosevelt took America by the hand and lead us out of the Great Depression and lead us full steam ahead into WWII. Not only did he keep a big role in foreign world, he was also very implemented in helping out America at the domestic front. He passed the social security act in 1934 to what he believes is one of his greatest accomplishments. Roosevelt knew that the people who lost their jobs from the great depression needed long term assistance, so he put forth the Social Security bill, letting people 65 years and older have a monthly income and not have to worry. FDR also has a record for the longest serving president in United States history of about three and a half terms. Arguably the biggest impact that FDR had on the Unites States was the first and second new deal. The new deal was executed by Roosevelt in 1933, and it quickly took away the black cloud that was The Great Depression. Yes the first new deal helped, but it did not completely solve the economic problems that were going on. The second new deal was enacted in 1935. During the decade and a half that he served as president, he provided insightful leadership, creating a world order that continues to this day. FDR worked with Congress to pass the New Deal to stimulate and revitalize the economy, which included extensive new programs such as the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), which made sure that a customer’s money was protected if a bank went under, as well as the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), which helped to employ thousands of unemployed workers in public works projects like the Hoover Dam. Additionally, President Roosevelt conducted Fireside Chats on the radio in an effort to raise the morale of the American people and get them through this tough time. He recognized the importance of their support and worked to prevent Socialism from replacing Democracy, such as had happened in Germany when the democratic Weimer Republic was taken over by the fascist Third Reich. During the early years of World War II, FDR’s diplomatic skills were evident as he supported the Allied efforts, while keeping the United States removed from the conflict. When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, bringing America into World War II and ending their neutrality, President Roosevelt began an immediate mobilization of resources to help fight the war in the Pacific and European theaters.     Roosevelt entered office because the current President, McKinley, got assassinated. His personal idea of what a president should do in office is that he should lead the executive department AND set the legislative agenda for Congress. The thing that people remember Roosevelt most by is his Square Deal. The deal favored neither business nor labor. He applied this rule to a coal strike where the coal miners went on strike in 1902. Since, winter was around the corner Roosevelt was worried for the public's safety of heat so he called the mines owners and union leaders to the white house. At the meeting the owners would not give into the demands until the President threatened he would take the mines over with federal troops. The owners agreed to the conditions set by the union leader, but still did not recognize unions. Roosevelt's next big act was his Trust - Busting. He was one of the first Presidents to really enforce the Sherman Antitrust Act. He applied the act to the Railroad monopoly called the Northern Securities Company. Even though federal courts said that the company was fine, they reversed their decisions because of Roosevelt's actions. The courts broke the monopoly and a lot of other monopolies as well.
