Frame Story Of Aladdin's The Arabian Nights
Fun Fact: The story of Aladdin is not the same as Disney portrays it to be. Another thing to know about that is The Story of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp is one small tale in a larger, more significant tale. Frame story structure has been used throughout history since humans learned how to communicate. A frame story structure is a layout that has a main story with several smaller stories in the original tale. Many mediums have contained this format, such as books and movies. One of the most famous tales in literature, “The Arabian Nights,” has a frame story structure. The daughter of his vizier, Shahrazad, offers herself as a bride to the king, in order to save all the women from being killed. After failing at trying to convince her not to do so, the vizier lets his daughter be with the king. Shahrazad starts to tell Shahriyar a story and ends it on a cliffhanger; he puts off her execution for the next day so he can hear the rest of the story. This repeats with Shahrazad leaving all of her tales unfinished and the king constantly postponing her execution. All of the stories being told by Shahrazad (including the two stories told by the vizier) are sub-stories within this overall plot. It is a series of interlocking stories that cover many subjects. Therefore, there are multiple stories within stories within stories, which makes Shahrazad’s tale much longer, putting her execution on hold for a long time.
