Foxface Fish
Foxface Rabbitfish
B- Fish distribution : ( where is it found in the world ? ) * Western Pacific: western Philippines, Indonesia, New Guinea, Great Barrier Reef, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Caroline Islands, Marshall Islands, Nauru and Kiribati. Recently recorded from Tonga.
C- Description : * The Foxface Rabbitfish, also known as the Foxface Lo, has a very unique body color. It has a mottled yellow-brown body with a dark chest. The face is very light in color and speckled on the lower half. They retain this bright coloring throughout the day, and during the night or when stressed, like many other fishes, they have the ability to change into a mottled dark brown color. * This is most likely used as a camouflage against predators, and upon waking, their bright colors almost immediately return. They have a long snout-like mouth that is used for feeding on algae and other vegetation, with the snout being particularly handy for reaching into crevices. * It may reside in a 70 gallon or larger aquarium. It is a very peaceful species except when housed with other rabbitfish. The Foxface Rabbitfish may be housed with more aggressive fish. Its predators will tend to leave it alone because of its venomous dorsal spines. * Caution should be used with this fish: like in all rabbitfishes, all of the dorsal, pectoral and anal fins have venomous spines. A wound from any of them can be, at the least, very painful. To prevent injury when working in an aquarium with a rabbitfish, it is a good idea to wear thick rubber gloves or somehow isolate it to one side of the aquarium temporarily. Despite the danger of the venomous fins, the Foxface Rabbitfish is generally timid and will usually retreat behind some rocks when approached or you stick your arm in an aquarium. Most injuries occur when people attempt to handle the fish without wearing gloves or stick their hand in the aquarium while feeding.
D- Diet : * The Foxface Rabbitfish diet consists of a variety of

This shows that lionfish, with their fearless attitudes, will sting anything that comes too close. A single prick from a lionfish can cause hours of pain and even paralysis (Gupta 1). I myself have been stung by a lionfish on the finger, so I know to keep a close eye on them when I am snorkeling. The problem is that lionfish do an excellent job of blending in with the reef. Lionfish have golden brown and white stripes which help them camouflage with the reef, and their fins and tentacles are long and wavy, giving them the appearance of a piece of seaweed. This is why lionfish are not only dangerous to fish but also to humans.…

The Appalachian Elktoe is a small freshwater animal that reside in Eastern Tennessee and Western, North Carolina. It has a thin familiar shell, extending to about 4 to 5” inches in length. To the common untrained eye, it looks like any other mussel. The adult mussels are usually dark brown to greenish-black. They have the appearance of a lob-sided flying saucer with striated lines. Further, “ The shell nacre (inside shell surface) is shiny, often white to bluish-white, changing to a salmon, pinkish, or brownish color in the central and beak cavity portions of the shell; some specimens may be marked with irregular brownish blotches”[2] . The reproductive cycle of the species is similar to other native mussels. Historically, the species has been recorded from the Tululu Creek (Tennessee River Drainage, the main stem of the French Broad River, and the Swannanoa River (French Broad River” (Clarke 1981). The elktoe mussel requires a specific habitat in order to maintain a healthy population. The components of habitat that the elktoe requires respectively a specific depth, a specific flow of water, and a specific mix of bottom composition. The elktoe is known to live in the “riffle sections” [3]of small to medium sized streams with gravel and sand bottoms.…

Studies indicate that the Schistocephalus solidus in a heavily infested infection has the ability to gain the same weight as the host. This limits the movement of the fish making it very vulnerable to predators (Parker, et.al, 2009). The enormous size of the parasites also leads to the change in the size of the host. The change in the size of the host makes it quite distinct from the other uninfected fish in a shoal (Barber, Walker, & Svensson, 2004). Another adverse effect by the infestation of the parasite is the change in color of the infected fish (Thomas, Poulin, & Brodeur, 2010). The infected fish acquire a new white body color with black eyes. These phenotypic changes make the infected fish more distinct from uninfected fish thus becoming more exposed to predators than the uninfected fish (Heins, Baker, & Martin, 2002). An experiment performed indicates that these changes in phenotypic characteristics make the infected fish more vulnerable to attack by a bird predator, the final host of Schistocephalus…

The Leafy Sea Dragon is a marine fish in the family Syngnathidae, which includes the seahorses. The name comes from the long leaf-like growths on its body. Sea dragons are some of the most-well camouflaged creatures on the planet. They blend perfectly with the seaweed and kelp that they live in. Leafy sea dragons don't live on tropical reefs, but in the cooler rocky reefs off the southern coast of Australia. Despite their name, seadragons don’t have any teeth. They suck their food with their long mouths, just like seahorse. Their diet consists of Small invertebrates, including shrimps and other zooplankton. Sea dragons' mouths work like straws. A sea dragon waits until its prey ventures near, then sucks it up. Each day, a single sea dragon may eat up to a thousand creatures. Sea dragons have a thin tails which cannot be used for gripping. They have small, transparent dorsal and pectoral fins that propel and steer them through the water, but they just tumble and drift in the current like seaweed.…

The snakehead were introduced in small numbers, but can lay eggs that hatch within two to three days, often spawning up to fifteen hundred eggs five times a year. A unique characteristic of the snakehead that allows it to move from pond to pond is its ability to travel on land. Although the snakehead moves slowly on land, they are able to stay out of the water up to two to three days at a time. Snakehead are aggressive feeders, competing with and preying on native fish species. Over ninety-seven percent of the snakehead’s diet is native fish. The other three percent is a mix of insects, crustaceans, and frogs. Snakehead have even been known to attack swimmers if they feel threatened (Nonindigenous Aquatic Species).…
