Four Letter Word
Four Letter Word It is the one noun in the world every single person knows of, but no one seems to be able to precisely put his or her finger on exactly what it is. This is because to each person it is unique. It has been defined by words but there is so much more to it than just words. This one thing is known as love. There are three common understandings: the love between life partners, the love between family members, and the love between friends. It is funny that no one really knows exactly how to define love. The love between life partners is the beginning of love, which is typically between a man and a woman but can be different. The love between a man and a woman who want to spend their lives with each other and for each other is unlike anything else. This love consists of the utmost affection, attraction, friendship, commitment, support, sacrifice, respect, and revere. When a man and a woman are in love and wish to share all of this, they typically get married and also want to share in creating a new life. Some do not. This is where family begins. The love between family members usually begins with the man and woman who decide to start a family. There is a unique natural bond between the children, mom, and dad of a family. This bond brings the family together because they all share life together as they know it. The love between family members consists of affection, support, respect, and care. The connection between the children and the two people who give everything in life for them is something that cannot be taught, but just observed. This love is greater than that of a friendship but it is not a matter of attraction. A friendship between two people can involve love, which can also be unique. This love consists of no attraction and no natural bond. This love is created out of a relationship with another person that has most often developed over time. The relationship develops into affection for the other person without charm. Each person has a

What is love? I never knew until I was fourteen year old at my first horse show. My family has always told me that when I loved someone or something unconditionally for exactly what it was without expecting anything in return, and when I was away from whatever I loved I would feel like something was missing, and only then would I truly understand love. At that first horse show I understood what they told me. For me my first horse show changed my life, it made me feel so alive and I never wanted to leave. I, personally, only have firsthand knowledge of familial and friendly love. From these experiences, I have learnt that love is when my mom hugs me after a bad day, love is when my best friend and I spend seven hours talking on the phone, love is when my brother and I burst out laughing in the middle of a fight. Meanwhile, although, I have no idea what it feels like to be ‘in love’ with someone, I know it’s love when my dad cooks my mom’s favorite meal when she’s sick or when my grandpa paints my grandma’s toenails because she can no longer bend over due to her arthritis.
