Analysis of Two Community Facilities related to Two Determinants
Of Health To understand the determinants of health that occur in our society, we must first observe the ones that occur in our community. A tour of Fort Mcmurray has been conducted for the facilities that relate to the two specific determinants of health. These determinants include social support network and personal health practices and coping skills. (Potter & Perry, 2009). The
United Ways of Fort Mcmurray (UWFM) is analyzed as a social network support and the
Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is analyzed as a personal health practices and coping skills.

This facility serves families, youth, seniors and individuals in need of health care, shelter or education. ( United Ways, 2010).
Improving the Health of our Community The UWFM run the largest fundraising events in our community in support of social agencies providing a vital network of support in the health of the individuals suffering in our community. The UWFM improves the lives and individuals and mobilizing collective action.
They are an incorporated non-profit charity that is focused on improving the long term health of our community. (United Ways, 2010).
Potential or Actual problems The amount of families and individuals that the UWFM can help is limited to the amount of donations received each year. Depending on the amount of volunteer work, this could be a potential problem to those in need of the health care services and the shelter that the UWFM provide to the ones in need. (United Ways, 2010).

Services The CMHA focuses on combating mental health problem and emotional disorders. The tools used include, research projects, workshops, seminars, pamphlets, newsletters, employment, housing, early intervention for youth, peer support, recreation services for people with mental illness, stress reduction workshops and public education campaigns for communities.

Information To become an annual membership of the CMHA the cost is 20 dollars, two dollars and fifty cents for those on limited income or organization memberships are 25 dollars. Hours of operation are form eight in the morning to four in the afternoon, Monday to Friday closed on weekends and holidays. Wheelchair access is available and spacious from inside which makes maneuvering the wheelchair simple and accessible. Good lighting is present inside the building, class room and conference rooms. The CMHA serves the mentally ill with its funding, education and health care. The CMHA also gives seminars and other educational information to everybody in the community. The services are limited to healthy individuals. ( Canadian mental health,
2010).
