Forrest Gump - Mise-En-Scene
Forrest Gump For over a century now, individuals have been flocking to witness the magic of motion pictures. It is a world made possible by a director and a dream. Unbeknownst to many, the making of a motion picture is a tedious event, involving scripts, takes, re-takes, and an abundance of post-production editing. Many people sit and enjoy a movie without realizing the complexities and the amount of individuals involved in creating the film. These individuals create the landscapes and backboards for us, the ultimate image also known as the mise-en-scene. My favorite film of all time is Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump will go down in history as one of the greatest films ever made. This film was nominated for thirteen Academy Awards, and took home six of them. This is in part because of the phenomenal cast and crew members involved in the production of this film; individuals such as the director, cinematographer, and art director, to the actors, sound people, and most importantly the editor, who pulled everything together and created the final cut. All of these plus additional elements such as sound, style, societal impact, genre, and film criticism make the film such a masterpiece. In this paper I will go into detail about these elements and as to why they add character and zest to the overall success of the film. Forrest Gump is a film that draws out every emotion that is available to the viewer; at times it draws empathy, as well as sympathy and sadness because of the real-life elements that are a part of the plot. The film is also loaded with irony and many opportunities to laugh at the naivety of the main character, Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump is a story about an “Unusual man doing unusual things” (Groom, 1996, pg. iv). As a result of how fantastic the film was, and how great the crew and cast were, Forrest Gump was nominated for thirteen Oscars at the Academy; which is a highly prestigious honor. Almost all elements of this film were up

The concept of film form centers around the idea of effectively engaging an audience. Motion pictures that properly adhere to form are abundant in sensory, emotive, and thought-provoking elements. While form in any creative medium is made up of a vast number of different components, basic understanding can be met by following five general principles: function, similarity and repetition, difference and variation, development, and unity. In addition, this formal system categorizes a films ' elements as either narrative or stylistic. The film _Scott Pilgrim vs. the World_ is exemplary in its effective use of film form by not only involving its audience, but catering to each of the five principles of form.…

I choose Forrest Gump as a historical movie. The movie was about a young man with a mental disability that goes through this major event in the 1960 – 1970s not only that but it was kind of romantic. Though out the entire movie, Forrest seems to be going along with the time line in his life looking for his first true love Jenny. Mean while she is living it out as a hippie tagging along with the wrong crowd and as for Forrest he maintains hope that one day she will love him. Not only that but the events that he lived in leads him to become a war hero and a billionaire. In the end he realize that life keeps on going as a “destiny or floating alike a breeze”.…

The movie "Finding Forrester" was a good, quality movie with a great theme and moral. In this movie Jamal, an African American basketball player and student, meets a famous old writer named William Forrester through a dare. Little do they know when they first meet what a great difference they would each eventually make for each other. William is the first to help Jamal by helping him in his writing. Jamal is a great writer but just doesn't know it yet. William helps Jamal find himself in his writing, and Jamal prospers into quite a good writer. The help didn't really stop there either. Jamal would tell William all about his day and how it went. Forrester would then offer his help and advice and helped Jamal with many aspects of his life. Forrester has a big problem of his own though. He will not leave the premises of his own little apartment. He doesn't leave for anything, he has all his groceries and everything else he needs delivered to him, and his telephone ringer has been turned off for over six months. Jamal actually gets him to leave for William's birthday and Forrester ends up having a good time. Jamal eventually wakes up something in Forrester that makes him decide he needs to get out and go see his family. Along with the story line of them helping each other it touches a little bit on race. The movie did a great job portraying some quality…

Academy Award winning sound designer Randy Thom provides readers with an article about the subject he knows best, sound in film. He defines exactly what sound design is, describes what it really is that he does, and crushes myths and ideas that many people have about film sound designers. Thom argues that what most people think passes as “great sound” in film is loud, boisterous noises, which is definitely not always, and rarely true through the opinion of a sound designer. Thom believes that truly great sounds in film are well orchestrated and are integrated into the film as a whole, rather than just into specific scenes and moments during the film. This creates a better sense of continuity and fluidity within the sounds of the film. Thom feels that rather than create a film and then hire a talented team to fabricate certain sounds, the film should be designed and created with the sounds in mind. The story, images and sound should be created and built simultaneously so that the sound contributions can affect the other aspects of the film and add even more continuity. Every aspect of film, even the cinematography, affects how sound works, and its purpose. From extreme close-ups to dutch angles and moving cameras, sound has a different role in every shot, whether it is music, dialogue, background noise, or even silence. The author also describes in detail each step of how sound designers, composers, and sound editors go about creating their work within each stage of the production process including pre-production and post-production. Randy Thom is an extremely well-known film sound designer, and his personal insight into the world of sound design is eye opening and fresh. He explains the ideas of sound in film on both a basic and deep level while questioning many ideas and myths that are believed about the sound design world today.…
