Pre-Production Report
For my project I am producing two front covers and two double page spreads for a music magazine titled ‘Volume.’ The sub-genre is a rock metal music magazine. The content I will include will be an interview and an album review. The style of one of my front covers will be a colour scheme of red and pink and the other cover will consist of the colours blue and purple.
For my secondary research I have analysed two magazines of the same genre, including Rock Sound and Kerrang. I have chosen these magazines because they are the same genre of magazine in creating and they are also bold and creative. On the November edition of the Kerrang magazine the key signifier is a medium close-up shot of musician and role model Oli Sykes. The encoder has used eye contact to create a direct mode of address with the decoder. It makes the model look seductive and attractive, which appeals to the target audience who are people in groups E and D on the demographic scale. The mise en scene used on the image such as his tattoos anchors the rock genre of this magazine.
The encoder has constructed the front cover using bright colours such as orange and red, which contrast with the black and white background to make it stand out on the shelves, so the audience are more likely to see it. Also the use of bold colours appeals to the target audience of teenagers. The edgy, capitalised, sans serif typeface of the masthead is partly covered by the key signifier, this connotes that this magazine is a well-known brand which is recognisable.
A pull quote has been used as the cover line saying ‘I want to make people happy…’ this overlaps the image of Oli Sykes and this creates an enigma for the decoder, as they will want to read the article that it is referring to. The big, bold, capitalised font style used on the headline ‘Bring me the Horizon’ overlaps the image. Also, the words ‘me’ and ‘the’ are written in a Japanese style font, anchoring the cover line ‘in Tokyo with

The layout in The Sun is structured and broken up into two parts. The first part catches the audience on the front page, this is due to the headline being in bold, with a picture of the girl that has survived after being wounded and the subtitle underlined underneath. This is all positioned in the bottom right hand corner. It is effective as it stands out and catches the eye of the reader.…

The Use of graphics are bold and engage your eyes to read the sub heading to continuing on the read as they are dot points; easy to understand and easy to read. The colours on the page, layout of the pamphlet are all reflecting bright happy colours, bright yellow borders. The icons with the key words and directions to “Look, Talk, Listen, and Seek Help” are all positives verbs on the steps of overcoming being bullied, and these icons are also bright colours. The negative image on the back of the pamphlet showing technology being used in a negative way with a boy sitting alone on a dirty brick ground with dark lighting, dark clothing, hood over his head ( not wanting to be seen) listening to his iPod showing he does not want to be disturbed. Contrasting with the bright Yellow border on the bottom of the pamphlet showing the youth beyond blue icon which is a butterfly. There are many types of ways to present evidence. This way the suspect can either be proven innocent or guilty. It is very important to make sure you have the right evidence because people can be proven guilty when really they are innocent if the wrong type of evidence is presented. That is why in the story “Forensic: Evidence, Clues, and Investigation” by Andrea Campbell, Forensic Science is proven to be the most important evidence to present in a court case.…

Dr. Edmond Locard’s Exchange Principle states, “Any action of an individual, and obviously the violent action constituting a crime, cannot occur without leaving a trace.” It is hard to say Locard’s Exchange Principle was not disregarded. After three months of expert investigation it was found that the DNA evidence that was discovered at the scene did not belong to Jennifer or Noura. Also Noura’s own DNA was not found at all at the scene of the crime. It is very hard to understand how Noura could have made extreme violent contact with her mother and not left any fingerprints, footprints, hair, skin cells, blood, bodily fluids, pieces of clothing or fibers behind. This lack of traces evidence sets off two different paths in my mind. One way leads you down a road of pure hatred for a parent. Everyone was felt this way one time or another in their life, where a disagreement or argument over something that is usually aimed at protecting the youth, leads to a massive outburst or feeling of rage, that is always immediately followed by guilt or remorse by a normal human being. But what happens when this rage affects a “not so normal” child. One with malice aforethought, that is just so tired of being controlled that they premeditate a murder and thoroughly clean any trace of evidence. The other path is the road Noura’s defense took. She is irrefutably innocent and Jennifer’s killer/killers are still on the loose.…
