Alma Kuc Football DBQ On Friday night, the PCHS Dolphins beat the Hamilton Yankees in an exciting match, ending with an unbelievable catch and a Pali victory. Though this catch seemed great, it became a controversial topic after the game. Many were left to wonder whether
Pali deserved that win. After gathering information, the conclusion can be made that the ball was caught, but not cleanly. This can be proven by the commentary of people rooting for Pali, such as Mr. Marsden, the Pali High offensive coach. Further proof can be seen through commentary of people rooting for Hamilton, such as Demetrius
Johnson, the Hamilton defensive back. Lastly, it can be proven by the commentary of unopinionated observers, such as Owen Dyson, the football referee.
Most people attending the game were rooting for the Dolphins, and almost every one of them agreed that the catch was made perfectly. Mr. Marsden, the coach, claimed the catch was unbelievable (document 3). Any coach wants badly for their team to win, so his opinion about the catch might have been distorted. Valentino Fufu said he simply
"reached out and pulled it in" (document 2); his perspective also was distorted considering that his pride was on the line, and his team was counting on him to make the catch. Frido Lay, the snack shop supervisor, was ecstatic about the catch.
According to Lay, from his vantage point, he was able to clearly see the catch being made (document 13). The enthusiasm from these people about the mediocre catch is simply an effect of the excitement about the Dolphins winning the game. There is no way all of these people would choose to be dishonest and lie about Fufu catching the ball entirely. But, it's easy to exaggerate the amazing quality of the catch, proving that the catch was definitely made, but it wasn't a great catch.
Even the people on Hamilton’s side agreed that the catch was made, although

The author writes, “It didn't matter that the Patriots went 18-1 in 2007. Or that they would average more wins a season after Spygate than before. Or that Belichick would come to be universally recognized as his generation's greatest coach. Or that many with the Patriots remain mystified at the notion that a historic penalty was somehow perceived to be lenient. The Patriots were forever branded as cheaters -- an asterisk, in the view of many fans, forever affixed to their wins.”…

If a team needs a large chunk of yards or is in a bad situation, they will chuck a deep ball and specifically play to draw a pass interference call. There are really simple ways to draw a pass interference call. On deep passes a quarterback will underthrow the ball, the receiver will come back to the ball, and even if the defender plays the ball perfectly, contact is bound to happen. This is when the flag is often dropped. These aren’t small plays either these calls can yield forty or more yards, and (without penalty) it is extremely rare for offense to gain that many yards in one play. Mike Wallace, receiver and frequent beneficiary of the rule, explains in an interview with the Baltimore Sun, how the rule is abused and used in the offense's favor: "Any coach will tell you that we sometimes need to come back for the ball because I look at it as I have the defender beat and if I jump back for the ball and the defender's not even looking for the ball, you'll get pass interference easily. So when you throw it up there, you give yourself a big chance of either making the play or getting a P.I. It's like a 50-50 chance, maybe even a 60-40 chance in favor of the offense.” This is troubling: an offensive player directly stating that pass interference is not only an advantage, but offenses will actually practice drawing the flag. Penalties directly impact the outcome of the game and are supposed to be minimized. Teams…
