Reflection

1. Have you ever kept a food journal before? If so, why?
I have done a food once when I was in high school. It was my sophomore year in health class. My teacher wanted us to learn about what kind of food we eat. So she made us do it for one weekend. She wanted us to share what we ate and how everyone ate differently. Some people ate healthier and some did not. She made us look at how much we ate and what she should do to eat healthier.

2. Did this food record make you more aware of what you were eating? Did it make you change your eating habits? Why or why not?
This food record does make me more aware of what I am eating. Like for that certain day I ate more than the weekdays. On weekdays I would not have time to eat as much as I did because the weekdays I am busy with schoolwork. That day I was with friends during lunch but during dinner I was alone. I don’t think it will make me change my habit on eating. For me, I like to eat different things each day. I do not like to eat the same thing everyday. I like to change things up so I wont get tired of eating the same thing. This is why I feel like I do not need to change my habit because I do change everyday. This also showed me to eat other things. Like it showed that my vegetable and whole grains are low. Which means that I need to eat more things that have them in it than other food.

3. Did your food/drink intake indicate anything about what was going on in your daily life?
No I do not feel like it indicates anything about what is going on in my daily life. Like going to the gym to run or walking around the park with friends. Some days when I am lazy, I would sit around and eat food all day long while watching TV. Then other days I would be out with people working and doing activities. I think the only thing the food report shows is the amount of food that is intake but does not show the other activities I do. The food report does not show if I were

My one day food intake is a typical daily intake on any given or an average day for me. Before taking this class I had thought about changing my health and food habits but never followed through on any plan. At first iProfile was frightening but once the facts started to flow and information was displayed, I began to welcome the results. The biggest eye opener was that so many foods have so many types of nutrients in them and after looking at my results for one-day it is very apparent for an individual to have a variety of food in their diet. Listed below are the results of my one day food intake:…

No statistically significantly difference in mean energy intake was detected between the first 24-hour recall and the equivalent day in My Meal Mate (an insignificantly different difference of 68 kJ was observed). No statistically significant differences in macronutrients were noted for first day’s measurements. A statistically significant energy intake difference of 441 kJ was noted between the second 24-hour recall and its corresponding day in My Meal Mate. A statistically significant difference in dietary fat intake was also detected among the second day’s measurements. Interestingly, the measurements of other macronutrients did not display a similar trend: no statistically significant differences existed among protein or carbohydrates. No statistically significant difference in energy or macronutrients existed when comparing the average of the two 24-hour recalls against the average quantity of the two corresponding days in My Meal Mate. Similarly, no significant differences existed when comparing the average of two 24-hour recalls against the average of the entire 7 day diary recording in My Meal Mate. Correlations between the two methods were remarkably high. The correlation for the first 24-hour recall was calculated at .77. For the second 24-hour recall, the correlation coefficient was found to be .85. A correlation coefficient of .85 was also found when comparing the average of the two 24-hour recalls and…

After reviewing my iProfile Journal it has come to my senses that my dietary intake for the one day I recorded does not provide a healthful diet. The reason this was not a healthful diet for myself is because the way my eating habitats were for this one day and every other day. My one day food intake journal consists of the following meals throughout the entire day. In the morning around 7:00 am I took my multi-vitamin with a glass of orange juice. At about 8:00 am for breakfast I stopped at Mc Donald’s and ordered a sausage and cheese biscuit with a hash brown and a Sweet Tea to drink. Then at 1:00 pm for my lunch break I had Whataburger. I ordered a Whataburger Jr. Meal which consists of a small junior burger with cheese, a beef patty, tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, mustard and of course the bun. The meal included a small order of French Fries and a Small Sweet Tea as the drink. For dinner which usually takes place at about 6:00 pm I cooked a Homemade Chicken Soup. The chicken soup included chunks of chicken, carrots, potatoes, squash, zucchini, cabbage, corn and cilantro. With this meal there was also Spanish rice included in my soup. To drink with my meal I had a glass of Gatorade. At about 9:00 pm as a late night snack I had a bowl of cereal (Lucky Charms) with a glass of water. This information that I just…

The three-day diet analysis was interesting. There were many positive attributes to it and definitely negative ones. Over the course of the three days, which were Friday, Saturday and Sunday: and figured this would give a good depiction of what I was consuming on a regular basis. In some places I was consuming more than I should be and in some I was consuming less than I should be. There were also those places were I was getting just the right amount. It is so interesting to me to be able to find out what I am consuming and how I am consuming it. Being an active male, it was most interesting of what I ate, what my average of the three days were, and the plan on how I would correct the way I eat to make it a more healthier lifestyle.…

Rather than having a presentation on all of the health problems in the community an interactive presentation to get people involved will be used. The goal of the fair is to educate the community on their diet and obesity and how it effects their long term health. The nutritionist part of the fair can involve a game where parents and children have to sort food depending on if it is a grain, protein, fruit, dairy, or an unhealthy food. This activity will help them identify what foods are essential to their diets. They can also have a station that lays out what foods they should eat even if they do go to a convince store or fast food restaurant, they can provide a healthier alternative meal.…

Described in this online dietary guideline is ways to balance calories, foods to reduce the consumption of, nutrients to increase, and ways to build healthy eating patterns. This online document gives great background information on nutrition and being healthy which is my focus. In chapter 5 of the document it is recommended for people to keep some type of journal or diary to keep track of foods eaten, caloric intake, and to assess nutrient intake. I think that is a great strategy in trying to help people change their eating habits whether it is to lose weight for physical appearance or health reasons.…

Over the course of this week I have learned many things about my eating habits. I found that when I am very busy I tend to eat less and healthier. When I am just sitting around I tend to eat more than necessary and the foods are not as good for me. Using this tracker has really helped me to see what I am consuming, as far as carbohydrates, fats, sugars, proteins, sodium, and total calories. I have also been able to tell that the more active I am the more calories that I burn in a day. Before I started using the tracker I never gave much thought to how many calories I was burning just walking around, cleaning, cooking, and working. My eating habits are not the greatest. This week I went to the beach for a couple of days and my eating habits while we were driving to and from Delaware was horrible. I ate fast food and consumed way to much sodium and sugars. When we were cooking for ourselves and walking around all day my numbers were much better. I did notice using this tracker though that I need to eat more vegetables and proteins, and cut back on my sugars. I have a hard time staying under my daily sugar allotment. Overall, I really do need to improve my eating habits.…

At a young age, I had always had an aggressive appetite, never caring about what I put into my body because I was young, and it was of no concern to me. Over the last 5 years, I have been more aware of my eating habits, but still not making a conscious effort to change what my body intakes. Throughout, My Diet Analysis research, I was able to identify eating habits that I was unaware of specifically during the weekdays. I decided to record two of my busiest days during the week, Monday and Tuesday and one lacks day, being Sunday. My findings were somewhat surprising, showing me on paper just exactly how unhealthy my eating habits are. My diet analysis gave me just the motivation I needed to fully make a change within my everyday diet. Overall, it is very clear that I need to make some changes within my diet on a daily basis in order become fit and healthy.…

According to "English- Word Information" (2003), “Part of the secret of success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside” (Quotes: Eating, Food). During the past three days I have been keeping a journal of my meals in order to determine my intake compared to the daily recommended intake (DRI). The results I am about to share with you were very surprising to me.…
